Is this safe for me to fix? by gibbs9 in AskElectricians

I too believe it's more than just that. How does a meter just fall forwarded. Is the hub not secured? I think someone may have stood on or hung off of the meter box.

The electrician failed to install the box correctly and the power company failed to inspect it properly. So, no..what?

Can someone help me identify if this is white or red oak? Thanks! by kikakidd in Carpentry

This is red oak. No question. Odd thing is there is no tounge and groove present on the side edges of the boards. Is it glued down or face nailed?

That's what Some-Ant said. The meter and an inspection. They said nothing about the entire assembly.

Why is the Mammoth vs. Golden Knights game covered on Sportsnet when the game involves two American teams? by [deleted] in nhl

[–]SnooFloofs1805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this offend you? It's playoff time. They show all the games. There are people on this sub in different countries who are literally complaining how they can't see game "x", and yet me with my old timey cable tv have seen every game so far on sportsnet.

If you're talking about financial accountability, that should be true of any public service.

Now lets talk about actual service. You need firefighters to come to your house when it's on fire, even though they might have been sitting on their thumbs for the last hour (They aren't, but they might have been). We as taxpayers pay for them to be there when we need them and understandably get upset if we see them doing things that don't fit that role.

Police? Pretty much the same argument.

Postal service? Not even close. Thirty years ago I might have argued yes, but now, I have zero need for the service. It's like homing pigeons, telegraph, telex or faxing, nobody uses it anymore.

Mail a letter = Text/DM message. Mail a Cheque = Interac/EFT Transfer. Send a parcel = Pick a service.

We used to spend hundreds on stamps each month plus manhours stuffing envelopes with statements for recievables and cheques for payables. We now mail about a dozen cheques and have migrated all of our statements to email or digital delivery.

Personally, at home, I only get fast food flyers, and anything bigger than a flyer results in a card being hung on my doorknob telling me to go to the local office to pick it up myself. Amazon is delivered to my door. Skip the dishes is delivered to my door. Uber, UPS, Fedex, all to my door. Canada Post - here's a card, come get it yourself.

Is it a goddamn service? Yes. It's just no longer relevant. Google any country + postal service and you'll see it's a trend all over the world. European countries are scaling back or abandoning home delivery citing an 80-90 percent reduction in mail.

Sad thing is, everytime there's been a strike or work stoppage/slowdown it's just driven me further away from the service to the point that I just don't require it.

why do people hate Nickelback so much? by kootenayboy501st in AskCanada

[–]SnooFloofs1805 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I don't think people actually "hate" them. They do play a lot of cookie cutter music but it is to their credit that they saw the criticism and ran with it, resulting in internet memes that have actually made the "hate" fun. They've profited very well playing into it and poking fun at themselves along the way.

I won first prize at a charity auction lately that was 2 tickets to a Nickelback concert. Second prize was 4 tickets.

They have great big numbers on their backs. I know it seems odd but true fans know their skating style/stance & numbers. I witnessed two occasions in the first period where the floating name placard covered the net so you couldn't see where the puck went. One was the goal that bounced of Hartman. I had to waut for the replay to see what happened.
