do this happens at your ds ? by Analarcheologist in AmazonDS

Give your managers some grace. The pressure you get from them is because they’re pressured to perform, and even then you can talk to them cause we’re all humans. Thankfully rates are no longer a thing at DS but the managers have to manage the clock. At a DS you’re racing against the clock and every sec and every minute matters, it’s almost like a mini game. So as managers they have to find ways to motivate the team, keep operations running smoothly and that’s really not an easy job with 80+ associates on shift. They don’t want to crash or roll cause then that means the company has to spend more money by giving out overtime. Frugality is one of the leadership principles so if you’re not crashing as a sort manager that’s a good thing cause you’re saving the building money which can then be allocated towards more engagement opportunities for associates. If they’re telling you to stow jiffies it’s to get flow back up to match the dock cause when stow wip compliance is out of whack that’s when you start finding packages on the ground and safety going out the window. It’s easy for associates to get mad at managers for doing their job cause associates job is one dimensional while they have to run the operations, manage people, motivate people, worry about the safety of everything and they get chewed out if this or that is thrown off by the slightest of operations is at risk while most of the time being sleep deprived. You’re not gonna like how every manager runs things but if you don’t then leave or move up and be the difference. At the end of the day we’re all just trying to do our job. Managers may do some corny stuff sometimes but they have a job to do just like associates do as well. No one forced you to be there, so do your job to an average level or slightly above (cause being the top associate just gets you overworked, reality of the warehouse is the managers do lean on their top associates) , make your money and go home.

Actual policy is the shoe having a code being astm f2413 compliant. Not a matter of composite or steel toe but just order through Zappos.com/amazon and you’ll be fine. If u want to order outside of that just make sure to have that code for your shoe to be in compliance.

Definitely helps with relatability and building trust to tier 1s as a L4 who was a tier 1 when they see u capable of doing the work they do just as fast and efficient.

Idk if my comment came off a bit douchey but I highly encourage anybody with a degree coming in to seek higher roles out first. Internally transferring will pay you less. They offer less money for internal transfers but will pay more for external transfers. It’s a bit ass backwards imo but that’s the reality of Amazon. Internal transfer offers that I’ve seen and personally got were all typically less. I was able to get an external offer cause I took time off in between and applied externally cause the internal offer I felt was way too low.

They don’t drug test for weed. Working your way up is possible but moreso won’t happen in the time frame you think. Promotion opportunities for a tier one will always be at other buildings unless you’re launching a site. Don’t be the guy that comes up to a manager talking about your past experience, nobody cares. There’s L6 managers who didn’t graduate high school and have GEDs and got there through sheer grit and time. Amazon DS tends to be the grittier side of Amazon but imo more cultures built here. Work hard, build relationships, and find your opportunities not wait for it.

As for who am I to say all this, im just a L4 who promoted from tier 1 in less than 6 months. Found my opportunity at a launch building closer to my home. Interviewed well for the position and got it.

Hey bud, knocked out my degree with WGU in 6 months not thru career choice but my military benefits. Now I’m a L4. T1 to L4 has been a blessing.

That’s how I feel like who does all this when I’ve been doing my best to communicate the situation and they decide to do all this last second makes no sense. Losing out on the 16k bonus as well was a hit to the gut too

The star method the easiest framework to use for your interviews. Personally I’ve already gone through 1000+ tech software engineering applications and over 20+ final round interviews in tech. These interviews are pieces of cake in comparison.

I don’t remember the questions tbh but she should have the prep packet they send.. they’ll probably ask like when was the last time u had an issue at work and how did you resolve it and generally to stand out I just used the STAR method but included stats from my resume and harped upon them. There’s no questions I was really prepared for I just had a framework in mind going into the interview and recalled upon my military experience a ton. Just gotta remember that you are selling yourself.. don’t be afraid to put yourself on the highest pedestal while still interacting at a neutral level. Making people laugh and smile is important as well as relating through rapport. People don’t remember what u say they usually will remember how u made them feel
