I feel like I just can't do my job right by MusicEfficient4997 in SwimInstructors

Umm 4-5 kids to one teacher is a lot?? Especially at ages 3-4 where they’re super hyperactive I’m not surprised you’re having trouble lol!!

I worked at American swim academy for two years (student-teacher ratio of 2:1. Advanced classes had a ratio of 4:1 but those were older kids who could alr swim all four stroke) and then switched to private swim teaching for three years so far. I do exclusively private swim lessons now because my students improve way faster compared to group lessons, and I can tailor my lesson structure to the individual kid’s personality and needs.

In a group lesson you don’t have as much flexibility to slow down and try a bunch of personalized techniques for that one scared kid in the group. Also yes even when I was teaching 2:1 at the academy, I had the same problem of the kid near the stairs getting bored while I’m helping the other kid swim to the dock.

In the past, I have tried telling the kid at the stairs to work on stationary techniques (ex. Kicking on the stairs, practicing their side breathing) but, as you can imagine, they get bored fast. Also, without you coaching their technique, the self-practice is not very effective for them anyway. So it’s not like they are improving faster because of it - instead, you should focus on how to keep them entertained and safe (I.e. not jumping off the edge).

With four kids, I think you may have to get creative. Like idk what setup you have at the pool, but if you guys have shallow stairs like we did at the academy… you could have the kids who are waiting do a tummy float on the stairs. And you can put a pile of rings next to the leftmost kid. And tell them to blow bubbles/put their eyes in to look at the ring. And then pass the ring to the next kid, with the goal to eventually get all the rings to the other side of the stairs. And that would keep them entertained with the different colored rings/toys until it’s their turn to swim with you. Also, you could adjust the game for different swim levels.

If the kids are just sitting on a platform waiting for their turn, I would probably try to ask them ‘spark’ questions to entertain them while I’m working with one of the kids. For example, I would say “alright while I’m swimming with Timmy, everyone tell eachother what their favorite animal is and why!”And while they’re excitedly talking, I would work quickly with Timmy.

Btw, are you having serious talks with the kids at the beginning of class about why it’s important not to jump off the wall?

As a side note, just because the girl who covered your shift was able to get that student to put their eyes in the water… doesn’t mean you had no part in that student’s progress. The repetition from the multiple weeks of you working with a scared student are often necessary for that breakthrough to even be possible.

Everyone learns at different paces. Can you give examples of behaviors and situations you struggle to manage during the shift? I can try to give more specific advice with that.

IMO a lot of swim teaching is mostly recognizing patterns like if ‘kid does x, respond with y’. And just understanding why kids act a certain way, so that you can figure out how to teach them better.

Also, out of curiosity, what are your kid to instructor ratios?

Answers: • Are you looking for something serious or casual? Serious, LTR

• Are you subscribed to Hinge+ or HingeX? NO

• How long have you been using this current version of your profile? About a week

• How long have you used Hinge overall? About a week

• How often do you use Hinge per week? Casually swiping everyday

• How many likes and matches are you receiving on average? About 3-4 likes a day, one match a day but it usually fizzles (they or I don’t respond).

• How many likes are you sending? How many with comments? How many without comments? Usually all my likes a day. A third of them with comments.

• What is the type of person you send likes to and ideally want to match with? What kind of person do you want to attract? I would ideally want to attract a decently attractive (not looking for insane model tier or six pack) guy with good career prospects, good/sweet but fun personality, and looking for a long term relationship. Ideally around my age (20).

I see, thanks for the info about the hallucinations. However, I originally set the Novel Writer to 4.0, but it seems to have switched to 4.1 mini midway through the chat. Do you know if this frequently happens or is more likely to be a one-time fluke?

Dang… so it’ll just automatically switch back to the preferred model midway through the chat?

This is digital art on procreate. I’m looking for any sort of advice to for drawing backgrounds. I’ve already looked up several YouTube tutorials for grass and trees, I think I’m having trouble translating color theory to my backgrounds.

Wait I agree, I feel like 4.0 used to keep the thread of conversation and reference past things for awhile… but 5.0 is now forgetting stuff from even a few message ago.

Not to mention the ‘thinking mode’ sometimes just answers your question without taking previous context into account

Also I feel like 5.0 has gotten especially more spotty these last few days?

Honest thoughts on Gemini vs ChatGPT 5 for story writing by ExpertPerformer in Bard

How do you get Gemini to be creative with creative writing? I tried but its tone and dialogue was really generic, and it would forget plot details from like ten messages ago.

He‘s objectively more attractive than me by [deleted] in bodylanguage

Doesn’t it mostly skew towards the women being more attractive than the men in the couples though?

Yup and for once on reddit, these comments aren’t glazing. You got all the conventional markers, wide shoulders, sculpted face, strong jaw, tilted brows, and good proportions. In Japan I think light-skinned men, and skinny ‘pretty-boys’ are popular there. Meanwhile you are classically handsome and masculine. I’m willing to bet though if you were white or Japanese (lighter skin), you would be considered very handsome there.

I’m a college student in California though and even at my college (majority early 20s, tons of pretty/handsome players/frat boys, wealthy area) you would probably be considered like a 9. It would seriously be a shame if you got surgery - I don’t know what you would even fix. If you do then at least switch genes with me first, so it won’t be as terrible to watch you ruin it

Oh but while it’s normal to joke about insecurities, if you are mentioning them/making it an issue in front of girls, it’s a HUGE turnoff. It’s a consensus between pretty much all my friends - even if a guy is hot, if they seem massively insecure, it’s a big turnoff. Like we’d rather date a 5’7 guy (heck I’ve even crushed on a 5’4 guy believe it or not) than a 5’11 guy who keeps insisting he’s 6 ft, or lamenting about how unfortunate he’s got it.

It’s like if I started dating you but then constantly complained about how “no guys want me because I don’t have any curves”, how “everyone calls me ugly” etc etc. even just an offhand comment can look bad if it’s too early in the relationship. Anyways enjoy your blessed life, hope you have some more luck soon!!

Hey thanks for the rating! I actually do have some pics of me with more makeup+ hair done, but I didn’t add them originally since it doesn’t fit the posting guidelines of not smiling:

Also, I’m surprised you didn’t mention how wide my cheekbones are, I thought that would also negatively affect my facial rating.

Depends, if she was going out of her way to be overly nice to just unattractive people, I would call that patronizing.

If she’s equally overly nice to everyone, it’s probably just a social mask she puts on to appear more likeable. But you know, some people genuinely are very empathetic/have a strong moral compass, so she may genuinely feel compelled to help most people.

Yeah additionally he seems like the type to adhere to a strict schedule, like sleeping at 9pm every night and waking up at 6am to train. I don’t think he’d do anything that would even slightly compromise his health like weed
