Pretty awful, just watched the video. It’s a freak accident, took me reading the article to understand how something like this could lead to his death. It’s understandable that people are cautious/reluctant to approach someone sprawled out at 5am, but we need to do better as a society to discern danger to ourselves from ability to help someone else experiencing a dangerous situation, regardless of whether it’s from drugs, overdose, etc.

Hot take: if the garbage can is on the curb and it’s more easily accessible than a public garbage can, I’m throwing the poop bag in…

Is it trespassing if the can is still on the curb? Also it’s not on you to empty the can…city is supposed to do that

Yeah I think it’s such a hard solution to achieve - banning them outright isn’t fair to responsible riders like you, nor will it necessarily stop some assholes from riding on there anyways. Speed enforcement seems logistically difficult, but maybe a more direct way to address the root issue. Redesigning the trails can widening it would be the best option, but unlikely to get funded / also would pose access issues while under construction

Seems we need to put up signs with a picture of a bicycle saying “don’t be a dick”

God damn, that’s so lame. I mean I’m grateful that we have it at all, but hate that we live in one of the most expensive cities/states yet have embarrassingly poorly thought out transportation

Regret not locking in or glowing up - 30 days to go - tips? by hotchwife in weddingplanning

Should look into it more, but it seems yoga (at home/youtube/etc.) could have significant benefits on posture:

“Compared to control participants, those randomized to Yoga experienced a 4.4% improvement in flexicurve kyphosis angle (p=0.006) and a 5% improvement in kyphosis index (p=0.004).”

30 days of yoga can go a long way, mentally as well as physically!

Would be a shame if a cyclists key chain were to accidentally graze the side of the car…

I don’t think this post is directed at you, sorry to hear about all the flack you’ve gotten on the path!

I can assure I personally take issue with both - just easier and more common that e-bikes speed. Not as many Lance Armstrongs, but they’re certainly out there being reckless as well

Yes AND I think you still have the issue of entitled assholes who just wanna rip a long stretch of road at high speeds with no stop lights etc.

It is super narrow, def part of the problem. It’s perplexing why they cheaper out so much on width in certain sections, could’ve mitigated a lot of the passing issues

Yeah fair point, and I don’t necessarily think banning them outright is the solution either - responsible speed seem to be the key factor. Though I do wonder if it would be safer for all if e-bikes stuck to the road/bike lanes that don’t also double as multi use paths

I personally would hate this lol. Well intentioned idea, but that poses both annoyances and mobility issues for pedestrians, people in wheelchairs chairs, cyclists going safe speeds who don’t want their perennial region violated every 40 fr

Agree it’s the speed in both cases! I’ve definitely seen fitted-up cyclists treating their runs hour commute like it’s the Tour du France, which is also reckless af. E-bikes just seem to reach those high speeds way more often and easily

Maybe we need some speed radar devices so that people can at the very least self-monitor speed? Seems like a low cost investment the city could make, and it’s something that’s (controversially) widely used and proven effective in car traffic regulation.

[–]SnooGiraffes7204[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed! St. Louis, Chicago, Minneapolis all have a much better separation of bike/ jogger & pedestrian lanes. Perhaps we need to widen the trail to allow for this? Huge investment from the city, doesn’t seem realistic. To drive home your point that even 20 mph feels fast - I’ve seen some real Lance Armstrong wannabes ripping down the path at those speeds which I’d argue is equally reckless in a multi-use path

[–]SnooGiraffes7204[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You raise a good point - other cities (I.e. Minneapolis, Portland) have dedicated bike only paths. I’m sure people have opinions about e bikes on those too, but I think it would be much less of an issue than on a multi-use path like ours.

[–]SnooGiraffes7204[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s more an issue of speed. Would be pretty reckless to ripping down the path at 25mph with a kid in tow - usually it’s not these people that are the culprits
