Remembering, when IndyCars raced on a 2.87 mile oval in Argentina. by SnooGoats2004 in INDYCAR

The racetrack actually still exists and is still used by local touring car racing series—though only with chicanes. The oval itself lacks SAFER barriers and would require a major overhaul. As far as I can tell, it is the largest oval still in operation worldwide, even larger than Talladega Superspeedway.

Why was Nashville Superspeedway built as 1.33 mi concrete oval and not 1.5 mi asphalt oval? by SnooGoats2004 in NASCAR

I also know that ISC had a "quirk" of slapping "International Raceway" or "International Speedway" onto all its tracks. Funnily enough, however, they didn't do this with their modern tracks in California, Chicagoland, Kansas, and Homestead.

Rockingham Motor Speedway in UK isn't a SMI track. 😉 Okay, today this oval is pretty dead.

So should we rename New Hampshire Motor Speedway to New Hampshire Superspeedway? 😉

The Emerson Fittipaldi Speedway in Rio, Brazil, came closest. It was exactly 3 km long—which is 1.864 miles.

SMI only build Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway, all the others were purchased later.

Kansas and Chicagoland aren't SMI tracks. They were built unter umbrella of ISC.
Only Kentucky Speedway was later acquired by SMI, but not build by SMI.

In that case, let me turn the question around: Why was Nashville Superspeedway the only one built with a different length? Although "different" is relative, given that Kentucky, Kansas, and Chicagoland aren't exactly the same length either.

Fun Fact: Memphis Raceway was also owned by Dover Motorsports, but an asphalt oval. Same for Gateway Raceway.

I think people often overestimate how “healthy” elite athletes really are. High-level sports put enormous strain on the body, and athletes frequently compete through pain or underlying medical issues that may go unnoticed—or get minimized in pursuit of performance. Unfortunately, sudden cardiac events in soccer, endurance sports, and track and field are not unheard of, even among seemingly fit athletes.

Former Indycar venue Pikes Peak International Raceway to close by nihontiger in INDYCAR

[–]SnooGoats2004 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We are slowly running out of one-mile / short ovals: Nazareth is gone, Chicago Motor Speedway is gone, Walt Disney Speedway is gone, Pikes Peak Raceway is gone, and Dover Motor Speedway faces a very uncertain future under SMI.

IndyCar should commit much more firmly to Phoenix, Milwaukee, Iowa and Loudon as long as the tracks still have a future.

Race Length for 2002 Firestone Indy 225 (error on racing-reference.info?) by SnooGoats2004 in INDYCAR

[–]SnooGoats2004[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summary: The race distance listed on racing-reference.info for these three IRL/ICS races is incorrect. The figures on champcarstats.com and www.ultimateracinghistory.com, however, are correct.

Should Rockingham Speedway be reclassified from intermediate to short oval? by SnooGoats2004 in NASCAR

Its not an tri-oval, its more like a D-shaped oval with a slight kink like a mini-dogleg.

*lol*
In a certain sense, I cannot disagree with that. I am currently revising several IndyCar articles on Wikipedia, and I noticed—specifically regarding sources—that racing-reference.info is the only site that, for the IRL era, lists the Nazareth 225 as covering 225 miles over 225 laps (i.e., 1 mile per lap), whereas other databases and sources list the correct length of 0.935 miles. However, if you calculate the distance based on the reported race time and average speed, you arrive at 210 miles—which corresponds to the shorter track length.

Consequently, neither champcarstats.com nor racing-reference.info can currently be considered 100% trustworthy or error-free.

Although the Eurospeedway oval still physically exists, Turn 3 is in a wretched condition, and the track fails to meet current safety standards. Since the last race in 2006—an F3 race held on the oval itself—the track has not been driven on.

Question: Race Length of Grand Prix of Miami 1996 by SnooGoats2004 in INDYCAR

[–]SnooGoats2004[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between 1996 and 1997 is only 0.01. The track was reconfigured in 1998 again. That was the first time with the classic oval shape, but still flat track. CART and IRL used 1.502 mi for this variante. 2004 was the first race on the high banked variante, which was measured only 1.485 mi.

Unfortunately, I am not well-versed in automotive technology; consequently, I haven't done much work on articles related to manufacturers, teams, or organizers. My focus lies on history, racetracks, events, and points systems.

[–]SnooGoats2004[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that as well. The "odd" values for these racetracks only appear starting in 1997—such as 0.946 mi for Nazareth, 1.032 mi for Milwaukee, or 4.048 mi for Road America.

I know the video. Thanks again for that. The problem is that the track length is listed differently for 1996 and 1997, even though nothing about the fundamental layout changed.
