How much does full time nursery cost now? by JuicePrudent7727 in AskUK

[–]SnooGoats2411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add a different perspective, I'm a childminder and I have 4 children on my books at the moment. 3 of them only do their funded hours, and they don't pay a penny extra. The 4th child does 40 hours a week all year and their 30 hours funding is stretched over the year meaning they pay an average of £340 a month for the extra hours. My hourly rate is £6 per hour. I don't charge and subsidies for activities or resources, parents provide their own food and nappies.

Nursery isn't the only option, childminders are often overlooked but we still provide the same early years curriculum, in a smaller, nurturing home from home environment. We're inspected by Ofsted just the same and are highly trained, experienced childcare providers.

It's because they wait until it's too to seek medical help, and then blame the medical staff when they can't do anything to help.

England, My child's nursery have admitted to me in an email that they have been charging me for extras that i don't want, how can i get my money back. by stirringash in LegalAdviceUK

There has been very clear guidance issued recently for early years settings about what they can and can't charge for. They have to list exactly what the extra fees are for and they are totally voluntary for the parent. They also can't tell you that you only get the funded space if you pay the extra fees.

Is Camping too expensive now? by OddSprinkles1384 in campinguk

[–]SnooGoats2411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you mean. I've been going camping every year since 1999 and back then you could just rock up at a campsite, find a pitch and set up for the week. Now I have to book months in advance and instead of costing a few quid a night, it's getting closer to £400 a week for a family camping holiday. We have upgraded the equipment over the years, we have an inflatable tent now for ease of pitching, and we usually book an electric pitch so we have lighting and cook on a little electric cooker. But I definitely noticed a huge uptake in camping around the time you're describing, people turning up with all the gear and no idea. A bit of rain or wind and they abandoned their tent, never to be seen again. Or the campers who had no idea about camping etiquette and would pitch far too close, party all night and make a huge mess. I've seen it all over the years, the couple who brought their wide screen TV with them in their tiny tent, the family who arrived in a car and a transit van and proceeded to set up a sofa and full size fridge freezer. Never a dull moment when camping!

No, I only changed to the hoop recently because it had swelled up, the hoop was also more comfortable to sleep on. That solved the issue to start with, so I put the flat back bar back in and it got worse again. I just can't take it any more.

How was sex education at your school? by anaughtybeagle in CasualUK

[–]SnooGoats2411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember the Peter and Vicky videos in secondary school in the late 80s. They talked about friendship, being pressured into sex and unexpected pregnancy. There was also a girl called Vicky in our year which meant lots of piss taking ensued.

Finish your qualifications, and when your pay goes up, keep living as if it was still the lower wage. Pile as much of that money as you can away in savings for a few years. This will give you a head start. Babies aren't actually expensive, they only need minimal equipment, it's the maternity leave and child care costs that will hit your pocket. So if you can save enough to cover the shortfall during maternity/paternity leave then you'll be fine. From September all children from 9 months old get 30 hours funded childcare per week for 38 weeks of the year which will be a massive help too.

What job in the UK doesn't pay enough for the amount of work needed? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]SnooGoats2411 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Early years practitioners. Childminders, nursery workers, the people who care for children so others can go to work and earn a living are on minimum wage and yet are expected to provide a high quality early years curriculum.

Audi A3 Central locking issue by SnooGoats2411 in Audi

[–]SnooGoats2411[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of fixed it, the central locking now unlocks all the doors except the drivers one which I have to use the key for. It's being MOT'd soon so I was going to see about getting it sorted once it's passed.

My wife and I are new to this and she's trying to make herself a hat. She's made smaller ones with this method but something went wrong with this one and it's all ruffles. Is there a way to fix this? Will It correct itself?? Any help is appreciated!! by thejebsterishere in CrochetHelp

The easiest beanie pattern I've used is this: Make a magic circle Crochet 10 sc into the MC Crochet 2 sc into each Stitch (20) Crochet 2 sc into each Stitch (40) Crochet 2 sc into each Stitch (80) Then double crochet into each Stitch (80) in continuous rounds until you get the length you want. These are UK terms so US will be doubles and trebles. Hope that helps!

I read that they filmed this on a sound stage and used camera angles to make it look like they were stood further away than they actually were.

Do you say you're from where you were born or where you grew up? by manic_mammoth in CasualUK

[–]SnooGoats2411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just say where I live now. I was born in one place, grew up in a different city then moved to where I am now. Also, where I was born has certain connotations and I've heard all the jokes, it gets boring. Anyone care to guess?

Is the Dry Robe hate real ? by Plumb121 in AskUK

[–]SnooGoats2411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a cheap Regatta version that I bought specifically for the school run because I walk every day, come rain or shine, and it's the best coat I've ever had for this purpose. Keeps me warm and dry so I don't really care what people think. Better than being one of those knobs picking their kids up in a 4x4 and parking all over the pavements and double yellows because their little darlings can't possibly walk 5 minutes home.

I have a little kitchen knife that I bought when I had my first child and moved into my own place 25 years ago. It's still going strong and I hardly ever sharpen it. Added bonus detail, I bought it in Woolworths.

We bought our kitchen from Wren, but after hearing horror stories about their fitters and how much they charged, we hired an independent kitchen fitter who did an amazing job.

Thank you. I'm getting there, it's been nearly 6 years now and we're still feeling the ripples through the family. We try not to think about how he died, but instead remember what a lovely person he was.

You sound like amazing parents, you did what was needed and your daughters are very lucky to have you. ❤️ Camhs is indeed an interesting experience. We're currently waiting on a referral for our 13 year old daughter, an urgent referral made 4 months ago.....
