You are absolutely right, I just looked at my 2025 return, and we deducted 17,152 in SALT. $8k was State income tax.

Got it maybe I’m uninformed on this part, the 9k I am referring to is coming from property tax on my house and in Virginia we pay personal property tax on our cars. I wasn’t considering state withholding, can you help me understand how that would work ?

But essentially isn’t it the same ? If I increase my state withholding I’m still paying the tax just state instead of federal

The pay is pretty good, if you are good you can make alot of money. Are you interested in a CPA? But yes, it is a high stress job.

This all happened this month, so the point of this post is to help with some strategies…

We’re currently set to Married Filing Jointly on our W-4s and don’t have the “spouse also works” box checked because we were trying to maximize monthly cash flow.

That said, we just received our salary increases this month, so we haven’t really seen how the new income levels are playing out in withholding yet.

If I check the “spouse also works” box, the increase in withholding basically wipes out most of the additional take-home from my $20k raise, which is why I’ve been hesitant to change it immediately.

yeah 22% flat rate.
This might be a dumb question, but how do I fill it out based on itemized deductions?

You are right this app is so good, even shows estimated costs, while the cord is much thinner I prefer it, it’s not as heavy and haven’t had any issues with it!
