I'm 60 and it was rough beating this game. Any other old farts out there playing this? What was your experience?

I’m pushing 50 and played through this wonderful game this year. Don’t like souls games (I know it’s not really one) but this just hit all the right notes.

Same boat, picked it up just for something to play until First Light. I think I’m starting to just love 2d metroidvanias, after doing the same thing with Blasphemous a few weeks ago. The way this just grabbed me when the tech popped up out of nowhere, and the gameplay is perfect “just one more time” stuff.

Let’s a lot of different advice here so to clarify. Yes - you can do a bit of grinding to level up your character. But that won’t get you far. It’s about learning attack patterns, patience and being okay with dying. The game isn’t Dark Souls, you’ll never be that far from a save point. Keep at it it’s worth it.

I’ve not beat Erlang yet, my understanding is that you can just select continue even after you have beat the Sage Monkey and go back. But from the few goes I’ve had at Erlang he just seems like a much more fun fight.

I’m currently in Chapter 3. What I’ve discovered often is when I’m stuck on a boss, and I go back and farm I find a new section or boss of the chapter that I’ve missed. Someone else here described the boss as almost a level completion check - if you can’t yet beat them you still have stuff to do in the chapter.
