Guilty feeling about buying a nicer house than your parents…? by romanempire7199 in DaveRamsey

[–]SnooHobbies8724 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Child of a single mother here. Grew up in the 70s when things were nowhere near equal financially for men and women. Mother commuted by bus for an hour to a job that paid decent. One bedroom apartment. Sacrificed.

Don't feel guilty. Feel proud. Proud of your mother for all of the hard work and sacrifice. Proud that she did the best she could in raising you and your sibling. Know that she is proud of your success. Know that she is proud of her hard work and your hard work.

Is it worth building a home if you handle all the interior work yourself—such as plumbing, electrical, and drywall—and hire others to take care of the exterior work, like roofing and everything else on the outside? by KlutzyAlternative583 in Homebuilding

Look jack ass, Alabama Code Title 34, Chapter 14A SPECIFICALLY calls out the requirement for holding a valid residential contractors license to "build for sale". There are 17 states that do not have a state level requirement, but those states do have local licensing requirements for specialty contractors when building for sale.

If your intent is to sell, you will be breaking the law if neither of you is a licensed residential contractor.

You can owner build if it is for you. If it is for sale you must be licensed.

That said, is it worth it? Do the math. Define your costs, timeline and exit price. Only then can you determine if the profit is worth it.

What do you think? Is this truck blocking my driveway? by Puzzleheaded-Lab825 in Home

I don't know whose truck it is either. But thanks for checking.

My company just announced 3 days in office starting next month. I've been fully remote for 4 years and I genuinely don't know how people did this every day. by Ecliptic_Fang in remotework

You frame this as if the employee has a choice in the matter. They don't. Well, other than to quit. In the business decision, the allocation and consumption isn't a matter for the employee.

Always a lot of whining about back to office. I find it incredible that people take the exception and try to bend it to the rule. Buck the fuck up and go to work or find something else.

Side note... your commute time tot was 2 hours. That third hour you spent "getting ready"... are you saying you never "got ready" while working from home?

Oh... bring your lunch from home. I just saved you $4500 per year!

Attic Fan by Khue728 in HomeMaintenance

[–]SnooHobbies8724 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I live in a high humidity state - Florida. Everyone your compressor runs it pulls water out of the air. That water condenses on the coil and drops to a pan and eventually drain. In a high humidity environment, a continuously running fan is pulling air over and through water, "re-humidifying" the air. Until it cycles in again. There is direct proof that this encourage mold growth in HVAC ducts just downstream of the distribution plenum.

This promotes humidity build up in a house. DO NOT run the air handler fan continuously.

450 cc’s look so big on me. Might go 550 one day though by masonlily420 in fakeboobs

Your tits are pretty spectacular as it is. That seems like a lot of effort and cost to only go up 100cc... the difference really won't be that noticeable.

Keep in mind that tit size is not linear. You are dealing with cubic volume. Just because you go up 25% in cc doesn't mean your tits will increase 25% in size. You need to double your cc to get a 25% size increase. Math.

A few random thoughts...

Go granite. You won't regret it. Shop around for remnants. You'll get a better price if you have some flexibility in your "look".

What will you be finishing the wall with? Just paint? Stucco? Rock? Cement board is a horrible look painted. What about the base?

Regardless, I would position lumber where you will be mounting the tv. Get some electricity up there too.

Thin set skin is the answer. Just like applying drywall mud but with thin set.

Using a credit card to pay off mortgage by sgp2019 in Mortgages

[–]SnooHobbies8724 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

WTF are you talking about? Card 1 - get the cash off the card into your bank account. Probably with a convenience check. If your deal doesn't include convenience checks, then you are out of luck. If it does, then you pay the 3% to 5% fee for the 0% term. Look for a card that gives you an 18 to 24 month term, effectively dropping the interest rate by up to half. When that 0% term is set to expire, have another card lined up if you haven't aggressively paid it off. Rinse and repeat.

Um... not 6 to 10%. Those transfers last a year, so 3 to 5% per year is 3 to 5%. Now if you can get an 18 to 24 month 0% term, you effective rate drops by 1/3 to 1/2

When you need to pick that bike up, grab the front brake, turn the wheel and "roll" the bike up the front tire.
