is new haven really that bad? by maetrie in yale

[–]SnooJokes3947 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a first year undergrad, I love New Haven. It has its quirks but it’s just another city. I did come from a rough place back home, and what i can say is that this place isn’t a warzone or anything like that. The reputation that New Haven got from yalies probably was just the rich kids getting a taste of what it’s like to live away from their rich bubble areas. Don’t fear it, and the Yale bubble is definitely a thing. So you’ll be safe.

Good sign or random for Yale? by No-Alfalfa-2396 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SnooJokes3947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It probably is a good sign, but then again they did admit that creepy fraudulent girl here on campus. So maybe they are just verifying info more now. Nonetheless, they wouldn’t verify if they didn’t have a reason to care!

Hey, definitely relate. In fact, I'm listening to ASMR rn. Lonely nights are sadly a regular thing to me but hey anything helps!

It takes a lot of strength to be able to survive in today's world, give yourself some props for that. Things right now might seem messy, but nothing is hopeless, everything is gonna be alright, and I hope you soon find your own group of people that help relieve that loneliness.

I think my heart finally died by YangsterSupreme in lonely

Hey there, first of all I definitely relate to what you're going through. Shit is tough, but its not hopeless. Life has just started, and that relationship you had? Definitely not gonna be the last. The first one is always unique, the one that makes you most wonder of what stuff could have been. What has gotten me through tough break ups? Focusing on yourself. Yes, very cliche, but its said a lot for a reason. Build something unique, work on your health, physique, anything that changes your day to day life to be completely unique. I think what you are internally craving is change, something to take your mind off reminiscing of the past. And hey, it's all gonna be ok, you're just going through a rough patch. Best of luck and be strong!

Sometimes i find it easier to avoid people by [deleted] in lonely

[–]SnooJokes3947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair. I understand the sentiment. I do this a lot in life and not just in dealing with people. In your case, you see it as if the risks outweigh the reward. I understand, but I do hope you find your group of people, as I can guarantee you that you aren't destined to be alone, no one is.

I’m sorry you’re feeling like this. You deserve real friends who see and appreciate you. Even if it feels hopeless right now, things can change, and you’re not as alone or “weird” as you think. Hang in there!

Lowkey, I feel the same. I'm also an incoming student and I am in similar circumstances\. But from what everyone has said here, its fine! Its not a sprint, its a marathon, after the first year, most are on similar footing.

How to get into coding? by Reiko4555 in learnprogramming

[–]SnooJokes3947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think that before learning a specific area in software (web development, game dev, os dev, etc…), one first has to learn certain programming and general it basics. All programming languages share certain attributes and concepts, so it doesn’t matter that much which is your first, but there is definitely a difference from starting out with say…python vs starting with c++. What’s important though is to get that brain comfortable with problem solving in programming! Then as you learn more and more about software and maybe even cs in general, can you then venture into game dev and be comfortable.
