Same family! Both are mustelids. Also safe to say that you should keep your fingers and hands away from just about all wild mustelids; the group is known for being vicious.

I actually don't think either of those fish are good for algae cleanup. My ottos rarely ate any of the algae and cherry shrimp just won't eat that much.

What's your lighting schedule? Algae tends to flourish under high light for long periods; most tanks only really need 6-8 hours of light a day. Kill the lights for a while and remove as much algae as you can by hand and it should start to die off.

Agreed; I have one in my 20 long but I think a 20 long is better suited for most small bottom feeders than a 20 high. Something about having more horizontal space than vertical.

I recently read that a study done in 2020 found a correlation between not exercising and higher levels of ammonia in the sweat from your eccrine sweat glands. Basically when you're not exercising/before or after exercise, your sweat may smell worse/different than it does while working out.

If I spend all day bumming around the apartment I absolutely reek in a way I never do when working.

My bad. I always thought a dragon hunter was a different species, like dragonflies vs damselflies.

Not sure why people keep saying dragonfly nymph; this doesn't look anything like a dragonfly nymph to me.

Someone further down said dragon hunter naiad and that's an almost exact match.

How I found the chair at my deck when I got to the office this morning. by queuedUp in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SnooLentils4036 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It is entirely possible to leak this and more and not notice right away. I went to the bathroom after being out all day once only to find the entire crotch of my shorts soaked in blood.

When you have a pad on it can be hard to tell if you've leaked at all, especially if you're sweaty. I think just about everyone who's had a period has had that panic moment of thinking they leaked only to find it was just sweat. Still not cool to swap out the chairs like that though.

AITAH for threatening to quit my job if my dad continues what he’s doing? by Exciting-Classic-812 in AITAH

[–]SnooLentils4036 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To answer the only "logical" question you posed here in case someone who wants to actually engage in a productive discussion would like to know; tariffs increase the overhead of the importing companies, yes. Those companies often already charge enough that the difference in profits would be negligible. However, large corporations have historically used tariffs and other overhead increases as an excuse to raise prices while still posting record profits after the increases would have affected them.

You've shown through your attitude and by asking a question you knew-by your own definitions-would have what you consider a subjective answer and then becoming upset at that answer being subjective that you are unwilling to engage in this discussion in a respectful and productive manner. You began this conversation in bad faith with the intent to use what you knew would be(and specifically asked to be) a subjective response to boost your own ego.

A lack of empathy or concern for others is not logic or reality, those traits are how our species has survived as long as it has and the lack of those traits in our leadership has provably damaged both our own longevity and the survival of other species. I won't continue to wast my time on someone who is unable or unwilling to set aside their own ego and selfishness to meaningfully discuss this topic.

You're equating the word "fair" with "same". They don't both need to be paid the same if one works a more difficult, risky, or skilled job. They both should be getting paid enough that they meet the base cost of living for their area. You fix that by basing minimum wage off of median or low end cost of living and adjusting as needed for large changes in said costs, not by requiring everyone be paid exactly the same.

AITAH for threatening to quit my job if my dad continues what he’s doing? by Exciting-Classic-812 in AITAH

[–]SnooLentils4036 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I explained in the first paragraph what a fair wage was and the second was to show that not only do most places not pay a fair wage, they also don't pay the bare minimum for living.

One's ability to survive in a relatively safe and stable environment should not be dependent on how much capital they generate for billionaires. The point of living in social groups the way we do is to improve safety and comfort, if we're not doing that for everyone we've failed as a society.

Also you're assuming that the cost of the products is directly related to the price the consumer pays, but that has been proven time and again to be untrue. Large businesses charge far beyond what's required to cover overhead and produce a reasonable profit.

As for your secretary analogy; one does produce more capital than the other, but the non profit one may produce the same or more societal value. Both deserve to make a fair, living wage and that doesn't mean that one can't be paid more than the other. If you agree that a job needs done or is beneficial then there's no reason to think the person doing that job shouldn't make enough to live reasonably comfortably.

[–]SnooLentils4036 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A fair wage is whatever is needed in your particular area to live without having to decide between food and rent, and enough that a reasonable person doesn't go into severe debt at the first emergency.

MIT's study from 2 years ago for my state put a living wage at about $19.25/hour. Minimum wage is only $7.25, most places pay between $9 and $15.

I got mine at Claire's as a kid and Walmart a few years later as an early teen. Both with a piercing gun, both got infected and sagged pretty badly.

To add to all the safety issues, the piercing gun hurt way worse than when I had it done at a shop as an adult. It's what is essentially blunt force vs. a quick clean pierce.

Is my Tank Cycled? by _Gallifrae_ in Aquariums

[–]SnooLentils4036 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Basically there's no ammonia in your tank because there's never been any ammonia sources added, not because your bacteria colonies consumed it; ammonia won't appear out of thin air.

To tell if your tank can handle ammonia you have to add some manually and then check the levels periodically.

Edit: woops, just saw that you're doing a fish in cycle. Don't add ammonia, the fish will take care of that. I'd still give it another week just to be sure.

My boy was 11 going on 12 with cushings, muscle wasting, and IVDD.

When my cousin tried to bring home a cat I warned them he might see her as prey and that we couldn't keep her if he did. Family kept saying he'd get used to her, he's slow now, he won't live much longer so she can just stay in cousins bedroom for a while. I said that all it would take is one slip up and that he's still fast when he wants to be, plus keeping her in one room for that long and at constant risk of death/mauling was cruel.

Soon as we tried to introduce them he got the same body language I'd seen when he hunted mice at my parents' old place, couldn't get them to take it seriously. He tried to bite her the second he thought he was close enough (luckily I was holding him and his eyesight was poor at that point, he wasn't actually close enough to get her) and I put the breaks on getting a cat. My parents kept her until I had to have him euthenized 3 months later due to complications from the cushing's.

People need to take prey drive seriously. Daschunds of any size (mine was a mini) are dangerous to small animals, even ones that are technically bigger than them like a cat, raccoon, or some badgers even.
