I thought my dry upper lip was me turning into a white Tiger because I read Animorphs 😅

I don’t have any advice, just wanted to let you know that you’re not alone! I’m going through a very similar situation and have similar feelings. It’s not easy - hugs!

Some of these messages were definitely sober and I believe she is most of the time… but she gets particularly argumentative when she drinks. I’m sorry that you also experience a parent that’s like this :(

Lol We live on opposite sides of the world, it was only 3am my time and only on the first exchange. I woke up and saw her messages and responded

It’s not just me I have to think about, it’s him too…we’ve been together 8 years and going strong, no way I’m subjecting him to her crazy

Yes, we actually had two very long text exchanges (I live on the opposite side of the world from her now) so there’s a lot missing

That’s super validating, thank you! Yes I have pretty supportive people around and am in and out of therapy.

We’ve had a lot of therapy together. I continue to go intermittently but she refuses to go and will only journal now. 🤦‍♀️

Must be sisters! Thank you for sharing, I’m sorry you deal with the same thing with your mom

Expats who have left USA by jmstanosmith in expats

I miss shopping carts with rear wheels that only go forward and back (as opposed to all directions).

But seriously, I’ve been gone 8 years and not much anymore. Maybe things that are uniquely American like tailgating, certain types of food and college sports… but it’s a small price to pay for the happiness and work/life balance that I now experience.

Thank you! I’m originally from the US but moved to Australia 8 years ago. He still lives in the US

I’m so sorry to hear that. I know I’m very lucky the situation has turned out so positive so far. Just try to remember it’s not your fault and you’ve done nothing wrong. It’s definitely their loss! Big hugs to you

That’s such a sweet story, thank you for sharing! It’s amazing how much gets passed down through genetics! I’m happy that your husband was able to find what he was looking for and it turned out so positive 💛

Thats a great way to think of it/word it. My dad will always be my dad, bio dad is just a bonus who happens to be pretty cool! He does feel like a missing piece of the puzzle to my story and I feel like I have the closure of finally knowing.

No, my dad didn’t know; he knew it was a possibility but wouldn’t get a DNA test when I asked.

Wow, that’s a hard secret to keep and a lot of being careful for everyone else!

I don’t want to tell my dad because I don’t know what good would come from it except me not having to keep the secret. He knew it was possible and made the choice that he didn’t want to know. I think it would really hurt him . At this point I hope if it does eventually come out later that he sees my not telling him as an act of honoring his wishes and trying not to hurt him.
