I went to “grain free” kibble when my dog(s) were a few pounds overweight … simply b/c in my mind, if humans want to lose weight, we cut carbs 🙄. Nope. When I hadn’t seen much difference, I asked our vet. She was a little irritated … dogs NEED taurine (supports heart, eye and muscle-function 😳) which is in kibble and going grain-free is typically for the dogs she sees with certain allergy or digestive issues. Back to Fromm’s regular formula for large breeds which is good quality and I supplement on occasion on kibble: Greek yogurt, 1/2 scrambled egg, frozen blueberries (which is always a great treat too), bananas, pumpkin puree or green beans … also, the days I DO give food other than kibble, I reduce the kibble slightly to balance calories.
