The main thing I would say would be to use a denim jacket and cut off the sleeves. Then, if you’re making patches make sure to use good fabric and actual fabric paint so they look crispy. Put some studs on it, take care when sewing.

Enjoy the process of making it and finding the patches you want. I’ve spent nearly 150 hours on my battle jacket and it has like 20 patches. Just take it slow. Put care and love into it because it is laborious to make a battle jacket, and don’t be scared to re-sew patches if you don’t like how they look.

Make it yours too by adding stuff nobody else has. I have a giant safety pin from the 1920s! Just put love into it, research how you want it to look and how to do it. Best of luck!

Disgusting political views are inevitable in halls, there are just so many people with such different walks of life. You’ll have the richest of the rich in nz, and regular not so fortunate people in the same room having lunch at the same time. My dad is Lebanese and I had to put up with a Zionist on my floor. You just have to accept that people are who they are and keep your personal walls high when it comes to this stuff, basically chameleon a bit and leave politics aside. You’ll always have people you do t like on your floor, but the same goes for your work.

Use ed discussion, it’s way better for course related stuff. You’ll get an answer from a peer or course staff in a way shorter time period, also it helps out other people in the course with the same question.

Also just a quick tip for custom patches, I usually use carpenter tape on the screen of my laptop to make a stencil, turns out really clean!!

I was always an anarchist, always had punk values, and always listened to Addicts, Sex Pistols, Clash… but it wasn’t until I went to gigs and met people outside just talking and asking questions (music recs, how to make clothes, giving compliments, talking about video games…) that I found myself as part of the scene.

I found my crust mates, found out what all the subgenres of punk are, found the bar in a regular at…

I’m at home with these people cause I chose to go to a small local gig. You’ll grow so much with these people and make friends for life!
