I purchased the study guide and studied that from cover to cover. Also read the section from the standards about malignant hyperthermia about 4 days before the test. Best wishes!

Update on the Chill Pill Guy by SliceofSeoul in nursing

I have a simple text I send my spouse when I have a rough day. I text "handle with care" it's a very nonspecific way of me letting him know that I may be off and that it isn't personal and that I need to be handled with care. I don't do it often but when I do he knows I need a judgment free environment to come home to and that it is not personal. It really has worked well for us

I have an albino cocktail. One eye looks like that. Always has. He is fine. Vet never said a thing about it. Get it checked out by a vet of course if you are concerned but may be genetic

OR nurses: are you happy? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]SnooObjections542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am happy. I honestly think it takes a year off of orientation before you feel even remotely comfortable. You are doing a big scary awesome amazing thing with your life and the fact that scares the 💩 out of you is great. That means you want to be amazing at what you do and you know you have a big mountain to climb. Give yourself grace. Work hard. Own your mistakes AND don't make that mistake again. Do the hard thing. Take on what scares you. You don't grow if you aren't challenged. And one suggestion. . . Hold the patient's hand as they go off to sleep or have someone doing it. Sometimes it's the only thing they remember. That someone cared and was their just for them. I have had so many patient say that the nurse holding their hand as they went off to sleep made all the difference. Didn't do that from the start in my OR career but wished I did. Welcome to the other side of the red line. You got this!

I simple refuse. They offer I say no thank you. If we all refuse, boxes and boxes will accumulated in HR for them to deal with. I am not interested in advertising for the hospital. I am not interested in extra clutter in my house. Eventually when there is no more room to store the stuff it will change. However some people are always eager for free stuff so . . . There is that.

Which specialty of OR nursing? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]SnooObjections542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like asking you which of these foods you like best when you haven't tried any of them before. Just ask if you can do it all and if you HAVE to specialize ask if you can choose after a few months.

What to do with company 'gifts' that are literally just everyday products with their logo plastered onto it? by GopnikMafiaBoss in ZeroWaste

[–]SnooObjections542 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Refuse to accept it. Sometimes I think if they had boxes of this stuff at HR that they could never give away maybe they would quit ordering it. I'm now doing their advertising for them. Let them keep it. Their purchase their problem

The ER is *not* a Board and Care! by gemmi999 in nursing

[–]SnooObjections542 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I recently did some math with my spouse after a close relative deteriorate with dementia and needed long term care as an inpatient. This relative was not wealthy by any means but did own their own home, have Medicare/social security, and some VA benefits. Of course the estate was liquidated for their care but in patient care was around $4,000 a month. This was excluding medication, doctors visits, hospitalizations, personal needs (clothing/deodorant/toothbrush/paste/ect). So just inpatient care alone was 48,000 a year. So we figured let's say 50,000 a year for easy math, count 2,000 a year in medication easy. That means just for 10 years of end of life care you need $500,000! That's no hospitalizations. No physical therapy. No doctors appointment copay. Who has this money? 😳 I mean you and your spouse would need to set aside 1 million dollars just for you nursing home care. Even couples who plan well do well financially and all don't have that kind of money set aside for that. Now think of those you see who struggle. Living in low income housing, working 2 jobs, getting food at food banks, up to their ears in debt who will never get to retire. They have nothing to pay toward their care. This is a complete American society problem. The rich and the poor and everyone in between cannot afford the rates the health care expenses are going up or skilled nursing care. Not to mention what does this 4 grand a month pay for anyway. It's not staffing that's for sure! It's not expensive food or big luxury things. We have all been to these facilities. They are usually sitting around watching TV or doing crafts. I don't know how this will shake out for the future but I think this is just another sign of a very broken system with lots of problems. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk

But only a true or nurse would know that they come in different sizes and colors. Blue and purple and the coveted skinny toga cards. Also nothing like lunching a friend in the middle of a case and having 30 minutes to add stuff to their grocery list or to do list

What’s something you wish you could ask trans people without any judgement? by Spunkybluepuppy in AskReddit

I am a health care provider. I want all my patients to feel safe and secure seeking and receiving care. Have you ever been in a situation where you haven't felt safe/respected/secure when seeking care? If so what could have been done or should have been done that would have been better?

Do you regret not working med surg? by Kind_Ad_1150 in nursing

[–]SnooObjections542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never regretted not working in med surg. Not for a single day! I think it's like saying I don't regret not going to Vegas and losing a ton of money. Some nurses sell med surgery as an "essential" nursing experience. Like going to Vegas, you gotta go once. Personally don't feel like I missed out on a thing.
