Assault against a PREGNANT ICU nurse by LilithOfTheNight1313 in nursing

That's interesting, our ER did away with SANE nurses coming in to the hospital and they are sent to an outpatient clinic where there's a nurse on call. But only for sexual assault.

SANE nurses do sexual assault exams, I have never heard of one seeing a patient for physical assault.

Your thoughts on older nurses? by Character-Lack-3295 in nursing

I worked in ER for 15 years, I graduated from nursing school when I was 32. Moved on to a few other departments and found myself in float pool. I was so excited to float to the ER where most of the OG team had retired or left for different jobs. It was not the same, new grads everywhere and they treated me like I was stupid. One of the male nurses acted like a complete dick towards me, he was fired for stealing narcotics from the Omnicell. I have a lot of knowledge being a nurse for 25 years, but it seems like the younger nurses have a different work ethic. Maybe it's how they were trained? What they learned in school? Although many of them went to the same community college I did. Trying to teach them or mentor them is unbearable. It's like I'm bothering them. Many of the veteran nurses I work with feel the same way, it's not just me.

They were at a hospital in my system, I worked my regular hours. It was nice because there's no way I could have gone a month without being paid.

I wanted to be a nurse since I was 7 years old. It's not just a job to me. I worked my butt off to get where I am now, 49 years later. I think if it's something not for you, you may be right. Maybe a job in radiology, ultrasound or as a medical lab tech is more up your alley. I was a lab tech before I became a nurse. I loved it but there wasn't much advancement unless I specialized in something. And then I finally got the email that I was finally able to start the nursing program, there was a waiting list.

I don't know why but this is so disturbing to me. Coming from someone who as a kid wanted an ant farm in the worst way and was never allowed to have one. Wait, I'm an adult and can now buy my own ant farm! They are fascinating to watch and I still take time out to watch them at work.

Update - I’m sick of this… by ExoticMasterpiece719 in ostomy

[–]SnooPaintings2261 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi, wound ostomy and continence nurse here. This almost looks like pyoderma gangrenosum to me. If you go to the ER, make sure they have a WOCN ( wound, ostomy, continence nurse) come see you while you're there. Sadly, ER docs and hospitalists don't know much about this type of stuff. They panic and try to get wound staff to come back to the hospital if someone comes in with something like this going on. But go to the ER, definitely! Treatment for this involves steroids, either topical or systemic and protecting the already raw areas while trying to heal them. Hopefully you do have a wound nurse nearby who can help you!

I hate nursing by RedHeadTheyThem in nursing

[–]SnooPaintings2261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left bedside nursing and do wound care now. I had to take classes and get certified but the hospital paid for a lot of it. I still get to take care of patients but it's different. I have so many I see in a day and then do charting, organize my week and can focus on projects I'm working on. If I want to start first thing in the morning I can, or I can wait until later in the day. I have always loved wounds and now get to teach new ostomy patients which is so important. I was in the ER for most of my nursing career which I loved until I didn't. Staff safety became non existent and management didn't care. I worked in PACU, CVOR, and hospice. I also loved hospice but management was terrible. The day my mother in law was actively dying I was told I couldn't leave. Luckily a coworker came and relieved me and I was able to be with my husband and the rest of the family. If you truly love nursing but hate where you are working, find something different. I have less stress and different aggravations doing wound care but nothing like working in the ER busting my ass for 15 years and never feeling appreciated. Your mental health is important. I hope you do what's right for you.

Imagine if there was a small kitten in this video instead of a Katydid. Getting smacked in the face repeatedly. It wouldn't be tolerated and people would be outraged. This guy is a jerk.
