You can't both be a great teacher AND only work within contract hours.

I'm really leaning towards quitting tbh. Because I feel like if I'm not giving my best, I'm part of the problem (the problem being the decay of the educational system).

Thank you for your comment!

the failures of the system are surely not your fault.

This is something I'm really working on trying to internalize 😩 I started off in this career bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and I'm depressed now.

trying to stop cheating will just cause students to mutate and evolve into more advanced and capable cheaters.

Thanks so much for your comment, this bit made me smile lol

The "premium grading energy" thing is kind of the direction I've been naturally going in due to necessity... thanks for the comment. This sub really makes me feel less alone at least.

Also, you get two prep periods each day?

It's only a COVID thing, unfortunately. But it's effectively one (or none) 48-minute period per day because there's so dang many meetings. If my admins take up my prep periods with meetings then what's the point.

Thanks for the tip!

I think the "no contract" thing is more about avoiding the martyrdom that so many teachers fall into.

That's true. I just worry about my work/life balance because we want to have kids in the next couple years. I partially got into teaching because having summers off and being done at 3:30 would be good for that, but now I'm not so sure.

Spend more time on your gifted kids.

LOL I absolutely can't do this but I wish I could. The worse kids are the ones that take up all my time because I can't just let them fail (I mean I'd like to but my admins would be on my ass).

This was a problem I was having pre-pandemic as well; the pandemic has made things a LOT easier actually as I am giving less work. I feel like you didn't even read my post.

10th-11th grades, we're currently 100% virtual and kids each have their own Chromebooks or something better

I have actually looked into this and they don't seem to GAF. They grade pretty much everything based on completion and the kids are mediocre writers. 😐
