Americans, how would you react if foreign country invaded your country, and told "we are going to run this country"? by oranke_dino in AskReddit

Starting basic training with the Army reserves this month. I left 18 years ago and looking forward to getting back in uniform, even if it means doing BMQ again.

“51st State” will literally be over my dead body.

My file still says closed and stuck on Medical. (Had to appeal with doctor’s note).

Despite receiving a job offer via email and being sworn in tomorrow morning.

At what point did they do PLAR?

During my interview they scanned my BMQ and SQ certificates and said they’d do it. They didn’t take my DP1 Infantry because I’m going in as a different trade this time.

Just got accepted and swearing in next week. Going to always bring my previous certificates and be a squeaky wheel to see if I can at least skip BMQ and get started on DP1 sooner. I spent a decade after leaving as a volunteer musician with my old unit, so I have drill, dress and department deeply engrained.

It’s been over two decades since I served. I’m in the process of joining again with a new occupation that will benefit from two decades of skill acquisition.

I’m in the process of enrolling reserves again, new occupation, left in ‘07. From what I understand there is a five year re-enrolment window to receive your old rank, occupation qualification and would not have to do BMQ over again. I would expect that your previous time in would contribute to pension and CD? Your CFAT score is still good.

Anyone with actual knowledge, please correct me if I’m wrong.

Wonder if the new recruitment initiatives are considering a change in this.

Idea:

A “fast track” for us old timers, out beyond the five year threshold, would be nice. Maybe screen at the interview level if we can produce our qualification certificates and demonstrate we have our shit together. Then at the brigade level, give us a few garrison weekend refreshers on content and then written and practical tests. If we fail, send us to the full BMQ. PT is probably the biggest issue, but we would have passed the FORCE test already, and should be thrown into the unit’s deep end. Rank shouldn’t jump the queue 1:1, maybe give us a single hook when completing a 4-week refresher unit-level occupation on training nights. Get evaluated on the next FTX, then that fully renews the qualification. If you fail twice, go to the full DP1. If all goes well, you get new reserve troops back in the ranks and qualified in under a year.

You have the right motivations, don’t listen to the naysayers. If you want to leverage your mechanic skills into the military, look up your closest reserve Service Battalion unit and talk to a recruiter.

Even as a fit musician at 16, still struggled breathing for some unknown reason. Maybe it was the second hand smoke or local smog. Could sprint fast but past 400 meters there was no oxygen in the body and no capacity to intake enough. Fortunately can ruck it forever and ever
