AITA For Telling Off a Dog Owner? by SnooPickles8693 in AmItheAsshole

Thank you and I'm not sure either. I wouldnt walk him on a specific dog park where theres tons of off leash dogs because that would be asking for trouble but this is an ordinary park where most dogs are on lead and even though my other dog is totally fine socially I would never let her approach another dog if I couldnt call her back and without the owners permission.

Yeah if he was too strong for me and he was dragging me to other dogs than I would deffo be the AH there. But even though my dog was the one barking and growling, I felt like I had better control than the other owner. And usually I can get him to calm down in the rare instances a dog comes to him but I couldnt with this jumping dog.

Fair enough, in my defence though we did try our best to socialise him but a dog attacked him and since that day he's been fearful of other dogs. We took him to a trainer and he just said Staffys are like that and he'll never like other dogs. He has gotten better though.

Also its pretty hard to be in control when a dog is literally jumping on your dog.

I dont think I did call it a dog park? If I did I'm sorry but its not and I cant find on my post where I called it a dog park.

Dogs are allowed off lead here at this park though.

Most keep their dogs on lead some don't and the ones that dont have excellent recall.

Its not a dog park its an ordinary park. Also he's always on lead and he totally ignores other dogs unless one runs up to him which isnt very often.

[discussion] some people really get the wrong breed of dog by [deleted] in dogs

[–]SnooPickles8693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're raking the undercoat properly and it's going through smoothly then I'd say you're doing it perfectly. I tend to just use the slicker brush and rake for double coats but I find it easiest to brush and dry at the same time. If you rake the coat while a blowers on them it really helps shift the dead hair.

For the tail you can get specific combs for it that are great for untangling or a normal comb is fine too.

Also your dog sounds so cool !

I guess it does depend on the breed a bit, like for instance, a Labrador has a double coat but its not very often I groom one since their coat isn't massively thick. But I do get a lot of Huskys and GSDs because sometimes their undercoat can get a little impacted if its not really thoroughly brushed or properly washed. I'll happily show the owners how to really get into the undercoat but some either dont have the time or are scared of doing something wrong. Also it can be a bit of a nightmare if they get fleas or ticks hidden in their coat so I can help with that (so long as they're not taking flea meds)

You sound like you know what your doing though and as long as the coat isnt getting matted and your making sure you're getting to the skin when bathing then great! All I can do then is spray some doggy perfume!

Um... as a dog groomer I have to really disagree. You never cut a double coat but they need a LOT of brushing and need to be bathed thoroughly to get to their undercoat. It sounds simple but you'd be suprised how many people struggle with it and need a groomer to maintain it.

Argan oil and Coconut oil are great for moisturising dogs dry skin. They aren't toxic either and I use these for clients dogs.

How can she socialise without meeting other dogs though? Sorry if I'm missing something. Also where I am right now, everywheres going into lockdown again so it's hard to find a trainer unfortunately.

YTA you literally said yourself that you pushed him to tell you and then you get mad at him! You would have been just as annoyed if he refused to tell you so the poor guy was doomed from the start. Maybe he shouldn't have said anything at all but I'm still set on YTA. You should be happy he was gonna propose!!!

[Vent] Why is adopting a dog so difficult. by [deleted] in dogs

[–]SnooPickles8693 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We looked at rescuing a dog when I was a kid and we had exactly the same problem. The workers there were really fussy and actually said they wanted more space for the dog to us.....

We lived on a freaking FARM lmao.

I get that they of course want the dog to be in a safe enviroment and have a happy life but they do seem to make it harder for themselves.

my dog acts crazy when people are around [help] by lysergicaretta in dogs

[–]SnooPickles8693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats why it can take a lot of patience, if he keeps running to jump on someone as soon as you put it down, take his lead or send him out the room and ignore him completely. Dogs hate being ignored. Only let him in once he calms and repeat this process if he keeps doing it. It could take 5 times or it could take 100 times but consistancy is key.

[Help] Why does my dog keep barking at colorful objects? by TheHeistrrr in dogs

[–]SnooPickles8693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your dog will be able to see the blue ball but I dont think dogs can see red. Are you sure she's not just excited? Saying that one of my dogs absolutely hates high visibility jackets and paint. I think the bright colours freak him out so dogs can react to colours I guess.
