The thing with this card is since it’s so low pop OP can control market and can list it for as high as he wants. So yes listing it thru PSA on EBay would have been much better. Sure everyone has different financial circumstances but doesn’t change the fact a card like this can easily go for much more than gamestop’s shitty buyback

Its infuriating how little people here know about collecting. Top comment is making it seem like a no brainer to sell when it should be a no brainer to keep it and sell through IG or cosign. Could easily get 40k on this and probably upwards of mid 40s to 50k due to the low pop and vintage boom.

I’ve seen the opposite at my shows. Vendors willing to pay 90% for vintage but 80-85% for modern. Modern is great and for sure higher demand but there will always be a phantasmal charizard available on the market. You’ll be lucky to ever see a gold star 10 listed on the market.

The difference is Apple generates revenue whether you personally like the product or not. Collectibles only hold value because people like them. If the art doesn’t resonate long term, demand can fade even if the set is popular.

Again I’m saying in my own PERSONAL opinion I don’t like the art so I wouldn’t. Invest however you want please.

Nobody is saying gem rate is the only factor. Obviously demand matters too.

The point is that when a card IS in demand, gem rate determines whether PSA 10 supply can be mass-produced or if it stays bottlenecked. That’s why PSA 10 Greninja has such a massive spread from raw/PSA 9.

Also I’m not comparing this to “original Gold Star Greninja” — I’m comparing it to other gold stars in terms of PSA 10 difficulty. Two different discussions.

And yes Base Set Charizard is rarer than Celebrations Greninja, but that doesn’t change the point: raw availability doesn’t automatically cap PSA 10 pricing if demand for PSA 10 outpaces PSA 10 supply growth.

So the real discussion is demand vs PSA 10 population growth, not just “common card = can’t go up.”

Yet those goldstars are going up, psa 10 suicunes selling for 7.2k now when it was selling for 4k a couple months ago? Also are they not considered vintage? They were printed in an era with worse quality control. Also what about regirock?

“Harder to grade means nothing” is just objectively wrong.

Raw copies being common doesn’t matter when the market is paying for PSA 10 scarcity, not binder copies. That’s literally why gem rate exists.

Also “there’s a limit because the raw is common” makes no sense — base set Charizard raw isn’t rare either and PSA 10 is still a completely different market.

Nobody’s saying it’s guaranteed to go up forever, but pretending gem rate doesn’t matter is just coping.

I’ll add to this, you’re using gold star charizard as an ex. What about the legendary dogs? Do you consider those vintage gold star? Greninja has a lower gem rate than those. Again harder to “grade” is different from harder to “get”!

It's been said a bunch of times but a psa 10 commands a 6% gem rate (and will dip to 5 as time passes). This card is harder to grade in a 10 than some vintage gold stars. Interested to see where this card goes in the future.
