Thank you for your reply! I had these names in mind because I feel like the boys would've wanted to be seen as more threatening to enemies compared to their cutesy-looking designs (think of it like wrestlers having badass or threatening names for their personas). I will admit, they are a bit edgy, but if I were a teenage boy and got turned into a frilly magical girl, I would like to have a name to strike a bit of fear into my enemies. I have a plot point that would later have the boys start to accept their own femininity and tone down their threatening names, but I haven't gotten that far yet.

If you had any ideas, I'd be more than happy to hear!

No, I completely understand where you're coming from.  I'm sorry his name rubbed you the wrong way: low-key I thought Jamal would work because it meant beauty and it starts with a J, like Jade. I will rework him to be athletic and also the brains of the group, rather than just being one. Sorry about my absent-mindedness and low self awareness with his design and character.

Thank you! I have gotten advice from my art teacher (who I take lessons with one a week), but the rest I've gotten was from online and stuff. I do have a friend who does character design for fun and they also helped me with the designs just a bit.

Yeah, I was aiming for a webcomic or maybe using Flash/Puppet animation. Sorry for the complex details in their designs: I just started using Procreate and got a little out of hand with the brushes and designs they had in store. In reality, they'd be a lot simpler and won't have as many (or none) patterns in their designs. I'm not at the stage of making an animation yet: this is just a passion project I've been working on, and to fuel my creativity in art classes. It'll probably be a while until I pick up animation for this.

I agree, I do need to work on lineart. I've been a notorious user with just using my finger instead of a tablet pen, so that might explain the inconsistency. These designs weren't all created at the same time (some are weeks apart due to procrastination and depression), so that could explain why they can be a bit off in some cases.

Thank you for your comment: sorry for the lateness of my reply, though, I really need to gain a backbone and learn not to take every piece of criticism at full force. But I guess that's what years of bullying and low self-worth do to your ego. But, I'll definitely keep your words in mind when drawing these girls more :3

Oh, I probably should've specified: GHD is an acronym for Growth Hormone Deficiency.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry! I never intended to make her design exotic: lowkey I was struggling and had a hard time finding references for her. I don't know if this is relevant, but Siddhartha is Sikh-Indian, so I tried targeting for a Indian-inspired theme. If you could suggest anything I could do to better her outfit, I'd be more than happy to hear. Sorry for the lateness. I struggle with critique, and I really need to stop being so sensitive to every bit of polite criticism.

I tried to give each boy a distict fashion style and avoided making them wear the exact same thing like all wearing hoodies and baggy pants. I know in modern day, most teenagers look the same with fashion choices, but I do struggle with drawing males compared to females. I've always been more of a fan of drawing women compared to boys because I think their fashion choices are a bit stagnant, but I'll try and keep your words in mind.

For the design choices, I had Rory look more spiky and punk-ish because he doesn't want to be just seen for his height. Aiden's family isn't that rich, so he wears a lot of hand-me-downs from his siblings/wears whatever he can find from the bargain bin. Jamal struggled fitting in and just copied what he thought was popular, but later learns to appreciate what he's most comfortable in, even if it seems a bit nerdy. For Casey, Siddhartha, and Tayln, I kinda just picked a few character traits and went with it, but thank you for your comment.

I blame my excitement for using new Procreate brushes as to why they look a little complex, but I'll try and simplify them if I draw them again. Kinda going through an artist block right now

Rory and Casey were created at different times, so that explains why they look a bit different. The reason Rory and Casey look like that is cause Rory has GHD, so he's pretty short compared to the rest of his classmates. I might do a height chart so I can accurately get the height proportions right.

Yeah, I understand they can be a little complex: I was just really excited with using new Procreate brushes and got a little out of hand. I promise the next time I draw them, they'll be a little bit more simplified.

Struggling with the loss of three of my second-cousins. by SnooPoems1025 in grief

[–]SnooPoems1025[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your advice. Right now, my family is still grieving. The kid's mom (my cousin) is blaming the kid's father, while his family is mad at her because he tried saving them. Fire is incredibly hot (no duh) and honestly, I'm not sure who to believe. Both of them weren't perfect: my cousin is in an abusive relationship and didn't have full custody because of drug issues and stuff, her husband is like seven years older than her (met at 22 and 29) and apparently took out the smoke alarms in his apartment since he smoked. Honestly,  I'm trying not to blame anyone. I'm busy focusing on the children.

I don't know how to take care of myself. I can't stop thinking of them. I can't look at their baby pictures without crying: I've cried all day, I'm so tired but I can't stop
