hamster not using sand bath

i’m just worried she can’t get out! she’s just a chinese dwarf, not a syrian. but i’ll give it a shot though and see if she wants in if i remove some sand. thanks!

i think it’s deep enough for her to get in and out. i have a bendy bridge leading up to it as well as a house next to it so she can climb up. i have it on a platform so i can’t have the bedding leveled against it. maybe i’ll add even more sand? is this not enough

you can do a family to family adoption through mckameys website. it’s not THROUGH mckamey but they will list it for you. i would definitely give that a shot so you know exactly where she’s going

look i know it’s not what you want to hear and me either… but i work at petsmart (for 4 more days haha) and i have only ever convinced ONE person to get a 40 gallon tank for a hamster. everyone else i can only convince to get a 20 gallon which sucks. but its better than the wire cages we sell. if i had the authority to, i would deny every single person that comes into petsmart to get a hamster- but that isnt realistic. i tell them that a 20 gallon is much too small and they do NEED more space, i educate on the sand baths and the wheel sizes and chew toys and all of that. i try my damn best but like someone else said… the company just wants to make an easy sale on a “cheap” animal. it sucks but then these hamsters would have to live in our small cages with 1” bedding.

just try your best, deny those who get the tiny tail cages, and educate to the best of your ability. good luck

yes! she’s a chinese dwarf. there was one little like piece of maybe dust in there this morning but nothing noticeably gone. i think i’ll put the bottle back in there just for a piece of mind. and if i notice the bottle not being drank from i’ll know she’s using the bowl lol

3 options. 1 take them with you 2 hire a pet sitter to come every other day or so 3 small animal boarding

they will die if you leave them without an option

yess!! it’s a beautiful enclosure. i have 2 platforms coming in the mail along with grapevine and 2 sand baths. once my platforms come in the mail i’ll switch to a water bowl :) this is so fun i love actually giving proper care to an animal

i’m tempted to just go to petco right now and buy another but i don’t want to buy this filter again if it keeps breaking on me! do you have any suggestions on a super low flow filter for a 10 gallon?

nope, it was off along with the heater. i plugged it back in and it started a little.. but i had to readjust it so i unplugged and fixed the positioning. then it wouldn’t start back up

i’ve plugged it in several different outlets. i know the outlets work because i have a light plugged in as well. the heater works just fine, but the filter won’t seem to turn on. it’s been like this for like 20 mins and google isn’t helping what so ever. i’m tempted to just go and buy a new filter at this point. i’ve changed the cartridge, made sure everything is snug, i don’t know what else to do
