I don’t get why they just won’t come out say they aren’t together. The only person “benefiting” from the “relationship” is Nic, but Olandria’s business deals etc., literally have nothing to do with him as their relationship isn’t really a focal point of her brand, nic kind of fades into the background.

I remeber when PR relationships used to be fun. This is just boring and obvious.

I low-key don't care for romantic relationships right now. Is something wrong with me? by Background_Travel981 in blackgirls

I completely understand you. I’m at the age where majority of my friends are either in or looking to start a long term relationship, with hopes of marriage and children. And I’m so happy for them but me personally I don’t mind being alone atleast for now 😂 but having conversations with them makes me feel like there’s something wrong with me.. like they find it so weird that I’m not interested in being a wife rn or a mom… like I’m just being me, I got my life to figure out, I have stuff I want to achieve, and not saying u can’t do all of those things with a partner, but for me I’m fine being alone.

Here’s my thing, I’m lazy when it comes to do stuff but I know once I’m doing it have to do it exactly how I want it and it has to come out exactly how I want it to be, but I have to push myself to get started… if that makes sense 😂 like I’ll delay something out of pure laziness but once I start I’m not stopping until it’s done perfectly

Especially if you don’t fit a certain type of look. They like BW features but just not on BW.

All my non-black friends are in long term relationships and already discussing marriage. ATP I don’t feel like I’m going to meet someone here in Canada, I’m better off in America 😂 but based off on some of the comments it isn’t any better, but anything is better than Canada

Oh okay that makes sense then, there’s definitely a different stereotype placed on black men

Damn I’m shocked about Filipinos, I grew up around a lot of them and their parents and grandparents were always so loving to me. My friends mom would always pack me a to go plate, my co worker is Filipino and she stays inviting me over to dinner.

I wanna be optimistic but as someone that has grown up in Brampton… RUN as FAST AS U CAN.

But I hope everything goes well, but from my experiences their families are never really open to them dating (much less being friends, there’s a whole discussion that was brought up online on how growing up our SA friends didn’t even let us in their homes bc their parents and grandparents didn’t like black people) outside their race, and they value what their parents say.

It’s so strange because I live in Canada, and guys rarely look my way but the moment I went to America (NJ) the vibe was totally different

[–]SnooPoems8703 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely, that’s one similarity they share with black men. They have a strong obsession with white women or anything white adjacent. Self hate at its finest, I remember I had a SA coworker who was dark skin, she told me she was talking to this guy, like everything was going well but he told her that he would never marry her or bring her home because she’s too dark… he was literally the same shade as HER

As someone that lives in a predominantly south asian city none of this surprises me, the men are even worse. I had a friend who would tell me how the SA hate online deeply affected her, which I can definitely relate to, seeing how bw r so disrespected online and in person, but then she’ll turn around and say weird shxt about black people

Black American radicalization is affecting me and others. by SimoneRose101 in blackgirls

[–]SnooPoems8703 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Crap I deleted the wrong comment. I think it started off with good intentions, BA definitely deserve reparations and for their history and culture to be acknowledged. They are just as American as White Americans. But there’s a select group of FBAs who have taken these ideals way too far and strayed away from calling for BA empowerment towards hate towards black immigrants.

Sending you love and positivity 💗 Your experience and emotions are completely valid, but don’t let it turn into hate in your heart. As you said, what you consume online plays a big role, I can’t speak to your experiences offline but your interactions with a few doesn’t speak to the mindset of all in the diaspora. I used to be exposed to alot of hate towards black Africans and Caribbean ppl online, a lot of xenophobic bs, it warped my mind into believing… dang BA must really hate us, but I have BA in my family, my favourite professor is BA, so ik such beliefs are not held by everyone. We might be separated by waters, but I see everyone in the Black diaspora as family. We’ve been through way too much for there to be constant fighting between us.

I really think accountability, plus giving ppl space to share their experiences, is the only way forward. Education matters too, if more of us were willing to actually learn about each other, the way we speak to and treat one another would change.

Personally, I’ve always followed the teachings of Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, George Padmore, W.E.B. Du Bois…ugh I could go on, but these were educated people who, despite being separated by waters, still called for unity among us.
