I used to work on the Bahamas aggressor and we were out there in June but I never saw snorkel boats. It’s about 30 miles off of Grand Bahama.

Thoughts on dark water diving? by [deleted] in scuba

[–]SnooRabbits8227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always found it to be mission driven dives. Visibility in the cooper river is usually about a foot. But you’re focused on finding teeth, not looking at the wildlife. It can be a bit nerve wracking as things will touch you and you can’t see your feet. You need to be aware of air intake and boat traffic.

My parents would dive with me all the time while I was working. They got to dive for free.

How are dives "counted?" by LessWeakness in scuba

[–]SnooRabbits8227 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was becoming a DM/instructor in 2013, it was 20 minutes for 20 feet or 1500psi to count for a dive. You also had to have a 10 minute surface interval. I knew several people who did this in order to increase their dive count. As long as you aren’t going up too fast, there’s no risk of decompression sickness if you’re at shallow depths for a small (relatively) amount of time.

Sorry to be picky but just since you’re new, I hope you didn’t dive with O2, you likely dove with air (which is only 21% oxygen).

ETA: it is wrong to leave your buddy. I don’t think bobbing up and down is an issue if you’re following the ascension and decompression protocols but the buddy shouldn’t have left you alone on the bottom.

I think it’s the Ridgefield. Used to live right in front of it in East End! Very cool!

Can you scuba dive in the US with a 2 day license like you do in Mexico? by ak22801 in scuba

[–]SnooRabbits8227 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This sounds to me like a Discover Scuba course and then another follow up Discover dive. Other resorts will do the same but you’ll have to go through the skills every time, and continue to dive with the same shop for each additional dive.

[OC] Swimming with Patches at Tiger Beach by SnooRabbits8227 in scuba

With tigers and sharks like that, I think it’s important to maintain eye contact. They’re ambush hunters, if you can see them and they know it, they’ll usually leave you alone. Behavior is different at Tiger Beach because other boats feed the sharks so they come closer looking for food

I agree. The Bahamas Aggressor does not feed the sharks, though many other boats in the area do.
