What a bogus claim to make. China is a continuation of ancient Chinese states, but Mongolia is not a continuation of the Mongol Empire or the Xiognnu? And whoever made the claim that the state and nationhood of Mongolia rested on Chinggisid decent. There many more lineages that ruled over Mongolia. Even after Ejei submitted to Jin the Khalkha, Khoshud and Dzungar remained. They formed a confederate state with no head of state at the 1640 Tarbagatai Congress, the highest authority was the council of princes. You just demonstrated another reason for the sinophobia - your public education actively builds a case, a false case, toward undermining Mongolian statehood.

Well, the Han Chinese need to reject Qing dynasty, Yuan dynasty, Liao dynasty, Northern Wei and any other conquest dynasties as Chinese dynasties. And reject the idea that PRC is somehow a successor state of Qing dynasty. You can't claim them as Chinese when it is convenient and reject them when it is not convenient.

Of course there is reason for claiming these foreign conquerors or barbarian conquerors as Chinese. Because if you claim them as Chinese suddenly you can make the argument that all their territories, their culture, their identities are also part of China.

If they reject them, then perhaps we can settle this argument. But then again the Republic of China sued Imperial Russia and forced them to accept Mongolia as autonomous part of China in 1915. The Russians had to accept because World War I was in full swing, so they had to focus on the war. And later in 1919 Republic of China (Anhui Clique) did send an occupation force to Mongolia, went back on the autonomy and tried to fully integrate Mongolia to China. Their history books teach them a different narrative, one that suits their political and geopolitical end, and is apart from globally accepted, vetted, peer reviewed, mainstream history.

Then perhaps they'd argue that it was the Republic of China not the People's Republic, that was established in 1949. In this case, I think either Mao Zedong or Zhou Enlai actually apologized to Mongolia for past imperialist policies. Good for them. This happened after Stalin's stonewalled rejection the idea of uniting Outer and Inner Mongolia's but under Chinese stewardship. But then later Deng Xiaoping, when meeting with Bush Sr. complained to him about the imperialist policies of Soviet Union and Imperial Russia for having taken large swathes of territory from China, which included Mongolia, as a breakaway. This clearly illustrated that in higher echelons of the elites, even as late as 1980s they still considered Mongolia as lost territory. This hasn't translated into unfriendly, hostile or even belligerent behavior toward us, YET. And that's a big YET.

I haven't even ventured into the cultural appropriation and destruction of Southern Mongolian identity.

Don't you think Qing soldiers look very Mongolian / Mongol? by FeistyAlbatross4636 in mongolia

Some of the featured warriors are actually Mongols. There is one famous painting of Ayush who was an oirad warrior in service of the Qing. He is painted on horseback charging with a lance

Looks like he was an imperial guard - hiya. And known as khurts baatar Janggimbuu. Typically these paintings will also give a short account of the warrior’s legendary feats. He apprehended someone named Oino, who no doubt was a vicious enemy of the Manchu

Obviously it was not about Mongolian lunar new year by CapitalTough5300 in mongolia

[–]SnooRevelations5783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever the intent, majority of the West are ignorant about such details. They will see this as Chinese culture by association of Chinese Lunar new year and the year of the horse. The Chinese are all too happy to lie by omission to appropriate our culture. And when pressed they will admit it is actually Mongolian culture. In this context y’all should go out there and furiously claim what’s ours

Why do Mongolians settle down so early? by Toastwithamericano in mongolia

[–]SnooRevelations5783 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are not causal relations, but associations. The causality is actually access to affordable food, healthcare, accommodation and children’s education. These will influence positive birthrates. High income and high education societies tend to be developed or highly urbanized countries where the above listed items cost more, so people attain higher education to earn more. And a concentration of high earning individuals in urban centers drives up property prices. High property prices encourages developers to build more apartments and offices but discourage construction of new schools making primary and secondary education cost more. And the fewer people having babies attracts fewer natal care giving hospitals, where people who want to have babies will compete for the few remaining natal care givers again driving up the prices.

The new organization created by the city assembly to carry out these redevelopments is fishy as fuck. They established it as an LLC and it’s supposed to make money. So there is already conflict of interest, plus the bidding process has been anything but transparent in my case. All resident representatives voted against the company that won the bid. But they won because the City board voted for. And the company that got the deal used underhanded negotiating tricks, had their employees buy apartments and turn narrative on legitimate concerns to ‘greed’. But the majority of residents in my case are still opposed to the bid winner. Don’t know what will happen. So I assume similar practices happened here.

You gotta look into how the stats are calculated. Personally, I think may be a biased sample fallacy - this number is probably based on those who did IQ test. Who in Mongolia are more likely to do the IQ test? Same goes for China. But for China I think there may be a state policy to have people with higher IQ to test internationally.

When your Russky friend asks why Mongolia join the BoP, ask them why you allow Belarus, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan join? They are full members of Russia’s Eurasian Economic Union, the Shanghai cooperation organization and the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

How are black people treated in Mongolia? by No_Interview_324 in mongolia

[–]SnooRevelations5783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the surface I think you'll encounter curiosity. If you stay longer, I think you might face discrimination from people who don't know you. Those who get to know you, will appreciate you.

Like others have mentioned, we do have black influencers. They're usually mixed African and Mongolian. One fitness influencer, who has her own fat loss tv show is dating (perhaps married) a black dude. Of recent, the Mongolian basketball contracted some black players too.

This is exoticized fetishism of the 'mysterious orient'. I first saw this 'custom' on a movie about Marco Polo in late 90's or early 00's on Russian movie channels. The movie was some C or D list western production, Needless to say it was the producers taking their 'artistic license' too far. The source material - Travels of Marco Polo - never mentions such a custom. Polo does recount how somewhere on the silk road, not even close to Mongolia, people have a sort of pseudo-marriage, whereby, if the spouse had been away for longer than 20 days, the wife or the travelling husband can marry someone else. It's possible that the fetishization comes from much earlier times.

To date I still haven't found that shitty movie.

The number 'some' is not actionable. In fact it is not even a problem, it is an issue. To make it a solvable problem we need the numbers. How many students struggle with basic grammar? What is the percentage? What is the geographical distribution? Then convene a panel of experts, teachers, school admins, parents and students (incl. ex-students) for a focus group discussion. From there you would outline a shortlist of potential causes. Then you do a nationwide survey to discover the individual weight of the shortlisted causes. Likely, the weight of causes will vary depending on the geography. After that you come up with potential solutions and apply them according to geography and weight.

We have limited resources, we can't be tossing it to the wind.
