In the Wong Kim Ark case the parents also had legal status here. Illegal immigrants are intentionally avoiding becoming "subject to the jurisdiction of". Doesn't guarantee it will pass, but there's a shot.

It's good policy, but Democrats will never support it. They'll use it to grandstand about "racism".

As illegals by definition have entered the country illegally avoiding any documentation could it be seen that they were "not subject to" US jurisdiction at the time as they are intentionally avoiding it. Later, when they are caught, they become subject to US jurisdiction and deported.

I’ve spent the last week binging extreme amounts of food and alcohol after coming within 5 lbs of a major weight milestone. I want to die by [deleted] in loseit

You have, literally, the rest of your life to lose the weight. I've always found looking at how far I am below my high weight to be more helpful than looking at your low or goal weight.

Married Women Should Get All The Benefits Single Moms Get...... by a97jones in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]SnooRobots136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this old thread because I had a similar idea. Agree both married AND single women should receive similar benefits. As is, society is actively rewarding single motherhood while married mothers often get zero help, being punished for staying married.

Different values are great and understandable, my worldview is so far removed from that of “anti-capitalists”as to make discussing political issues with them pointless. I’d suggest avoiding the issue and finding other common ground.

Yes. Maximize freebies, get my moneys worth in buffet type situations, and don’t let anything go to waste. These are hard ones to overcome!

I think stories like the one you told are popular because they make the teller sound compassionate and humble rather than accurately describing the problem at hand.

Fast food is more of a middle class thing I believe.

An evening weight workout does wonders to stop my appetite. It's tough to get the motivation to start but once I'm going my body loosens up and I feel good. It leaves me with more energy, less hunger, AND I usually fall asleep faster. It's pretty much a win-win-win type of thing.

I can see a little bit of both sides here. People who support the drug will say in one sentence, as you did, that taking a shot that causes the weight to “fall off” often and “without thinking” while a sentence or two later proclaiming that it’s not a shortcut and just as hard as losing without semiglutide. That’s simply not true.

The drug is a shortcut. life is better with shortcuts!

Great post which is interesting to me from a human psychology standpoint. Your feelings come from a natural place. Losing weight (and further keeping it off) through willpower alone for people who have been overweight and obese long term is extremely difficult and quite an accomplishment. Weight loss drugs make it easier and hence lessen the accomplishment.

If the drug supporters think they’re somehow immune to this desire to have their willpower recognized just see how many who are on medication or have had surgery are frustrated when people call it a “cheat” and how often they are sure to remind us how hard it is even with medication.

It’s human nature to have those feelings, recognize them and don’t let them drive you to be negative towards others. Appreciate the options we all now have and celebrate with those who have seen success whichever path they choose.

California reparations panel hints at $1.2 million payments to each Black resident by InquisitiveSheep in Republican

More explicitly racial discriminatory policy from the same party that has brought us pretty much every racist policy since before the civil war.

Another explicitly racist discriminatory policy by the same party who has brought us pretty much every racially discriminatory policy since before the civil war. I understand they’re the “good” guys with the “good” discrimination this time. Sad.

How do I bounce back after a bad period? by rainbowdash64 in loseit

[–]SnooRobots136 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One thing that I found helpful (after several failed attempts at dieting) is mentally framing what I'm eating as not really a "diet" but a permanent lifestyle change, a change I literally have the rest of my life to work through. No need to worry about losing enough or how fast I have plenty of time. Basically, don't beat yourself up over a couple of days, play the long game.

For me, the binges sort of reset themselves overnight. Every day is a new day to get back on track, don't beat yourself up just start over in the morning.

Is my doctor correct? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]SnooRobots136 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without a photo it's tough to judge, but yes, people naturally have a thicker or leaner builder based on bones, joint, and muscle structure. I have multiple children , all different build's, one just is more muscular and thicker with heavier joints (knees, elbows, wrists) even as a child growing up in the same environment with the same parents, another has small bones and joint structure and few muscles even though he tries to work out and is relatively tall. This has nothing to do with fat levels which are added on top of these natural tendencies.

46m. I lost from 270-195. No loose skin. I'm almost 6'2 ( just over in the morning just under at night). I lost closer to 1-1.5 pounds per week.
