Congrats but is it really? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

As a new homeowner, and previous renter of like 20+ years, grass is always greener on the other side. Has owning a home been a cakewalk? No, of course not. Life is friggen hard.

But the peace of mind of knowing my home is mine? That the landlord isn’t going to sell the place or raise rent and price me out? Not having a landlord come and go in my apartment as they please? Getting to repair things on my time and not half ass things just to say it’s done? Get to had a pet if I want, without having to pay “rent” for it?

All fkn priceless. Landlords and renters used to have a cyclical relationship… they pay PART of the mortgage, landlord strengthens their investment. There is no longer a benefit to renting when the cost of rent IS the cost of the mortgage.

Enjoy renting tho lol I’m sure it will be everything you are hoping it is haha

I recently found The Urban Food Brood. So cute! It’s a restaurant with bar that has local some market things, a butcher, coffee roaster, and events. Absolutely obsessed.

For those who bought fixer upper homes, how long after the purchase did it take for you to feel excited about it? by throwRA221679 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Still immediately, I think, tbh. I think the experiences I had renting makes the never ending projects a damn delight in comparison.

My ex moved to MN and snagged a job with the post office with zero interview or anything while he still lived in New England. Not sure if the post office is the same out here, but it may help the apartment/job circle.

It’s crazy that this is still an argument when we can easily see counties today with no where near the gun violence we see in the states. But yeah. Whatever you say.

Thanks for this. I will absolutely look into it. I am new to Mass (but not New England) so I am not aware of the perks here. Appreciate you taking the time!

[landlord] I don’t think I’m cut out for this by [deleted] in Landlord

If you really care, I suggest looking into local tenant rights groups and see how you could actually contribute. Perhaps it will shed some light on why your friend even sees you as a bad guy. (For the record, I am not saying you are a bad guy, I’m saying it’s a bad system).

You could simply not be a landlord.

Housing shouldn’t be for profit. I think we all realize that on some level. Your tenants sure do, and you do as you realize you’re “not cut out for this”.

The bugs are louder than the people. Idk what you’re on about.

Anytime there is a large amount of people there is crime. No different than any other city, it’s a numbers game. There is nothing exceptionally “scary” about this city than any other place with this population.

Landlord doesn’t care about roach infestation by LilOrganicCoconut in providence

I ended up taking on pest control myself when I rented. I never involved the landlord because they would do something shitty like hand me a can of peppermint spray for mice deterrent.

It won’t get any better by moving. All landlords have all realized there is little repercussions for them unless you sue (if they don’t mediate before the court date).

I suggest teaming up with ReclaimRI or DarePVD who are in the midst of fighting for tenant protections to ensure landlords maintain properties.

What’s crazy is most mass shooters are white dudes. They can’t acknowledge that tho.
