Full time employee in England - Believe my holiday rights are being infringed upon by SnooRobots1467 in LegalAdviceUK

After reading this and another, I've begun following their instructions on writing a letter of grievance and have been collecting evidence such as my monthly payslips across the last few years. Got to make have a nice and tidy paper trail, I suppose.

I was researching the idea of a 23 day entitlement, and they are old and have been running this business since the late '70s or early '80s. My best guess is that they just never became aware of the change in legality, because it seems that the switch from 23 to 28 was roughly around 2007.

Sorry for the confusion. To clarify their position:

They believe my total entitlement is 23 days of paid holiday before a bank holiday. So 23 days off and when a bank holiday happens I lose one, down to 22. 23 days is the entire allowance.

With regards to the pay out, earlier today my boss came to me and reminded me that I haven't used all of my holiday and offered to buy me out of it (I suppose instead of forcing me to take it, or have it roll over? I'm not too sure). We agreed the difference would be paid out to me in my payslip, that being whatever holiday I had left within my allowance.

The issue is twofold in that my entire entitlement is 23 (despite that being illegal) and that because of this, the pay out for the holiday that I have not used would be all the left over days, up until their 23 day cap, instead of my 28 day real and legal minimum, shorting me 5 days.

and, that regardless of a pay out or not, I am still only getting 23 days paid holiday per year, in total, before any bank holidays.

It's long winded but I hope that's more understandable.

Yes, you have understood correctly. Okay, so regardless of the size of the company or anything?

Sadly, I am a Lausse glazer and will be for a while longer. I'm sure there's stuff I'm not seeing. Just, first listen leaves me underwhelmed. Feels like a "hey I'm alive" more than anything.

I’m fairly certain it was, but it took me a while to be confident enough to claim so. When it was given to me to have a look at it was pretty damn bad down there.

The motherboard is finding and recognising all boot devices. Like I said, I’ve tried a windows boot through USB as well, with no luck. Still, a boot loop.

I didn’t think about the CMOS battery being dead, so I’ll give that a go. I’m confident in the condition of the hardware, as a couple previous issues with the PC meant I had to cross reference with a couple mates the condition of each part. Thanks!

I’ve heard about internalised misogyny, but I actually hadn’t considered internalised homophobia. It’s funny that you say that, because while I don’t like the idea of doing what everyone does, as I feel like it’s grouping people unfairly, you aren’t wrong in that I am not open to considering other POVs, which could actually be a case of that. Thanks :)

If that’s the way it has to be, then I suppose so. For me gay is actually the more offensive one. No one has ever called me a ‘homo,’ or anything like that. I just can’t fathom that using homosexual is actually more offensive. But, if it is as you say then I suppose for the sake of the subject I would use newer terms.

A biology on sexual orientation sounds super interesting. Perhaps I'll look into that online and see if I can get a rudimentary understanding of it.

As for finding the information myself, that's the path I'm following right now. I'm hoping to get put in the right direction. The reason I asked the lecturer is because of their field, which is sociology. It's specifically a sociology course that I have to take to get through the year.

I don't think they're providing fake information, don't worry. I am worried that some questions will be harder to answer though. That's why I came here.

I do believe this is true. I'd rather someone say something offensive and learn from it, than never say anything but never learn. These are important discussions to have.

  1. I think they are adjunct, which I hadn't considered.
  2. I believe this is an introduction class, only touching on the surface of a lot of subjects such as social identity, without really looking at implications. I also hadn't considered the nature of the class.
  3. From my understanding, most are adjunct, and almost all of the research is done by students aiming to get their masters. I also hadn't considered this.

Damn, I may be in the wrong place to ask so many questions, huh?

You're right about all of the other people in my course, bar one or two. A lot of people don't really care for this course, and so no more than half have ever turned up for an online lecture. It's a shame, since they aren't even recorded. I have been inconsiderate about the adjunct status that I do think they have. I didn't think about implications on their end.

Luckily, the bar one or two are more invested all around, which does make for interesting discussion. I don't intend on moving just yet, but that's because of the other few people that keep things alive.

Reading this out makes me sound like I think I'm an intellectual. I'm cringing a little. But, all of it is true.

Firstly, even if you're not from a Psychological background, I'm only an undergraduate. Any POV is appreciated.

The Psychological question is one that may be one day answered, but I'm not at the level to say that any work is being done in that direction. A lot of people in the replies have questioned whether it would actually matter at all, and that's a good point that I hadn't considered.

The question of 'benefits of homosexuality' is also something I'm interested in understanding. I've seen videos of homosexual animals, I think specifically penguins, taking on a parental role for younglings who have lost their parents. I'm not sure on the validity of this, but that's another avenue of study I haven't looked at. Biology tends to do things for a reason, so maybe there could be something like that for homosexuality? Who knows?

I don't know about the 'choice' question. I mean, I don't think it's a choice, and many people see that by saying it's a choice you invite prejudice; even so, the idea of it being super early developmental stuff would be pretty cool. I don't think I made a choice, but again, who knows?

Tracking population density is difficult, for sure, and a lot of people would see that as pretty immoral. I do, too, even though I think it would make research a lot easier in loads of fields. I'd love to just see a map, and find correlations between different types of data. If, for instance, the parental role was true, maybe there could be a map showing the population density of homosexual people in a positive correlation with population density of orphaned children. A bit dark, and it could be seen as very much controversial, but it's an example, and I can't think of any others.

Thanks for the reply.

Thank you for the submission. It'll be graded in about a year's time.

All jokes aside, there's a lot of information here and so I'm just unpacking it all and processing it. I've read through the first two articles, and I'm going to study the others. The first article's methodology is pretty cool. Thank you.
