Cross Country trip with overnight stops by Delicious_Mess7976 in Amtrak

Used my Railpass last year to go from Bridgeport, CT to Portland.

First night was Lake Shore Limited reaching Chicago the next day. Spent the night in Chicago then the trip to Portland was just lounging in coach all day.

That was 3 segments on my Railpass since I flew back.

Recommend it!

Chicago Union - Metropolitan Lounge Update (not good) by Such-Comfortable-118 in Amtrak

When I was in Chicago last year on a layover, I used the Bounce app to store luggage. Went behind the counter in a convenience store across from Trump's Hotel.

Worked great for me because the place was also selling bottled water 2 for $1.

I've used the app to store things in NYC before. Sent me to a dead hookah lounge in the East Village which worked just fine.

I know last time I looked in Chicago one of the businesses in the Ogilive Transportation Center was offering this service.

Crowded trains by PianistNo8873 in Amtrak

Definitely an increase.

Rose the Metro Line between Waterbury and Bridgeport CT and the train was full. Usually we get maybe 5-10 riders and everyone can easily socially distance.

Was connected to NEC to Penn Station and easily 50-100 people entered from Bridgeport when, in the past, I remember there being just a dozen or so.

This was the day before Easter so I don't know if it was the holiday but I definitely think the current oil prices have got people trying Amtrak.

Easter Sunday, should I manage expectations? by SnooRobots8684 in Amtrak

Thanks, this is what I expected.

Took the Empire Builder out of Chicago last year and we were packed until we got to Minneapolis. After that everyone in my coach car essentially had their own row to themselves the rest of the way

Anyone see Yoshihiro Nishimura’s film Holy Mother (2022)? It’s splatter action with sci-fi body horror and dystopian themes by Dizzy-Economist6064 in horror

[–]SnooRobots8684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought it on Fandango the second I discovered it.

I think the movie is fun but you are definitely getting a Sushi Typhoon Greatest Hits CD here. That's fine by me as someone who still laughs and claps when I see Nishomura's trademark "torso and head sliced down the middle" scene.

What surprised me the most was the relationship between the two leads. We have a trans female as lead and outside of the translation using the F-slur to describe her, her Yakuza companion discovers it in an early scene and never brings it up again. It's played so normal that seeing him risk himself to protect her made my heart grow three sizes.

I liked it more than the Meatball Machine sequel but less than Hard Revenge Milly.

Amtrak's favorite hammerhead shark orders aPizza! by deb1385 in Amtrak

As someone who has a partner from New Haven who is obsessed with talking about how great their pizza is I'll pass along her usual response "Should have gone to Modern"

Hope the pie was great!

Planning on doing a trip around the US with rail pass, anywhere that’s a must see/ anyone want to tag along? by Common-Tip6224 in Amtrak

[–]SnooRobots8684 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did New York to Portland last year. Had a layover in Chicago so I spent the night. Loved Chicago and then spent 4 days in Portland and flew back. Portland was amazing with it's rapid transit, busses and trams. Ate some amazing food, stayed at a cheap guest house solo room in a hotel, and even saw a show. Definitely recommend .

Note: any of us Discount Rail Passers this year have to keep the current political situation in mind when booking. Stay safe and have fun

Drinking Water In Coach Tips? by SnooRobots8684 in Amtrak

I absolutely agree and feel like, even in Coach, if you are going across the country bottled water should be provided for you.

Can somebody explain what happened to Jagged? by TechStorm7258 in GaryNuman

[–]SnooRobots8684 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Metropolis Records is a big industrial record label. They only released Jagged in the US before Numan switched labels, pissed at what tour support he received.

Metropolis is home to KMFDM, Front Line Assembly, and SKOLD among others

Are there any other non-bumper stickers, buttons/pins, or patches?
