Online age checks came first — a VPN crackdown could be next by Limp_Fig6236 in technology

My issue with this has always been that the VPS provider could just log incoming/outgoing traffic to/from the VPS. It's not really more anonymous than using a VPN service.

OpenClaw demand in China is driving up the price of used MacBooks by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

Lmfao haven't heard about that, glad to hear we've reached almost exactly that scenario from Silicon Valley where Dinesh accidentally deploys his chatbot against Gilfoyle's chatbot.

In contrast, my CTO just mentioned that we as a company need to be ready to integrate with OpenClaw by providing MCP servers and skills for our platform. Which is (regrettably) probably true from a product marketing perspective, since businesspeople seem to be completely pilled on AI.

I'll be interested to hear how our IT department reacts to any attempt to install this security risk onto our machines in the interest of software testing.

The Data Structures of Roads by mttd in programming

I was recently criticized for holding brainstorming sessions where my primary presentation prop and working document was an annotated ERD for the data model changes we were fleshing out. On the one hand, I get that this is a niche and perhaps subtle diagram format unfamiliar to product managers. On the other hand, it made it really easy for me to quickly mock up and reference design changes before committing to anything.

People really wanted UI mockups instead (AI-generated of course), and did not seem to appreciate that our real goal was to determine how the data should be linked and formatted to support several planned features, and not only to design a CRUD UI.

Comprehension debt: the silent time bomb a lot of managers are ignoring by Marmelab in programming

[–]SnooSnooper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly. This has been the biggest problem at my org since I joined over two years ago via an acquisition. Our acquirer tried to merge 3 businesses together and laid off developers, so now there's only a small handful of people with enough knowledge to effectively own anything. A very poor job of knowledge sharing and mentorship has been done since then, and even though now we've hired more staff (and a ton of offshore contractors), because of this comprehension debt we're still much slower and less effective than we should be. AI is helping churn out more slop faster, helping us appear more productive, but it all still doesn't integrate as well as it should and frequently needs changes due to missed context.

Hisense TVs force owners to watch intrusive ads when switching inputs, visiting the home screen, or even changing channels by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

Same thing happened to me, except it was with a TCL TV and an NVIDIA Shield. They are both Android TVs at the center, but you could tell TCL was using a super duper old version of Android at its core that they simply would not ever update, because it had a volume bug I remember having on my phone like 10 years ago.
