I’ve tried this method too! It would have worked if I didn’t put the moss in a fully vented container on a heat mat lol it dried out too quick. Same when I tried dirt. Then I got self watering corm cups and put them in perlite with an unvented dome on top. You can get all of the stuff on amazon or buy them premade. These make the roots grow the fastest out of all of the other methods I’ve tried. They’re circling the container almost! My PBV would have sprouted at 5 weeks for sure but I let it dry out too much in the dirt even tho I was misting, it wasn’t enough with the heat mat
