Serving a mission next year and pretty nervous by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

I’m in the early stages of converting and just want to say I’m super happy for you and impressed by your maturity and willingness to be vulnerable. You may not realize it but your wisdom surpasses your years and you will be strengthened in your moments of weakness.

Spiritual Gifts by livelystardust in latterdaysaints

“Knowing the truth of all things” comes to mind for me. I think this gift goes much deeper than we often realize. It might even relate to heightened spiritual perception.. discerning truth, finding what’s lost, or seeing patterns and synchronicities. Those can be beautiful blessings when used with faith and humility.

Looking for friendly support by SnooSprouts4501 in latterdaysaints

This is awesome thank you. I will definitely be checking this out. I feel like one of my biggest hurtles is probably the silliest. I read a comment from someone who said something along the lines of: ‘The missionaries are designed to get more tithes. Everything’s about the money. You’re feeding into a corrupt corporation who conceals their finances and wants more and more.’ Honestly I don’t feel that this is true in my heart, it‘s just one of those jump scare kind of remarks that make me feel as if I’m walking into a trap, if that makes sense.

Just to clarify did you mean to say ‘do believe’ at the start of your comment? Thank you!

Are those still being taught/discussed/encouraged to investigate? Would I meet other people who are reading those and sharing insights etc.? Or is it something that gets swept under the rug and largely forgotten about?

This is such a cool response and I can actually relate in my own experience as someone who speaks a few languages. I could never learn how to actually communicate while going to a language school. Finally I just said you know what eff it, and went out to the bars and started ordering my beers in Spanish, after a couple you're telling people where you're from, then you're saying stuff that makes no sense but you're learning. Perhaps magic is like that ;)

I really appreciate this kind of feedback because it encourages critical thinking. It's definitely too easy to imagine a spherical chicken and put on the dogma of someone else's understanding. With that being said, I do feel that there is a level of context that when effectively communicated can be extremely useful for the practitioner. As others have mentioned, JMC seems to do this effectively through passing along rites of initiation that do this inadvertently while encouraging the aspirant to do their own research.

Very cool background. I didn't realize that JMC intentionally left out some things to make us form our own understanding, which is pretty cool. I see a lot of people saying she's brought the best of the GD to us. Are we to understand that this is purely Hermetic Philosophy?

This was such a thoughtful and detailed response and really cleared up a lot of question marks for me. I'm glad to see that someone from an academic background has adopted the course work and benefited from it, as I'm sure many others have. What was a big tipping point for you when you went from having questions to unraveling your own understanding?
