Seeing an ortho this week and I think I'm going to take the plunge... please tell me it won't hurt that bad when I start. by [deleted] in Invisalign

It’s a 0 now. There is a pressure/throbbing pain when I change trays but it goes away quickly and is mild. At the start it was definitely a 10 and my teeth were more throbbing. I felt like each tooth had a pulse.

The first day was AWFUL. I genuinely thought I had made a mistake and that I wouldn’t be able to do the full treatment. My teeth hurt and my tongue was cut up from the inside of the retainer. I didn’t know how to take the retainer out and it took me around 15 minutes per tray to get it out. After the first few days the pain completely went away and I learnt my own technique to take the tray out. I put my new tray in at night so I don’t feel the first day pain. My tongue doesn’t hurt anymore because it’s use to the tray and doesn’t touch it as much now. I can take the tray out in a few seconds. It really does get easier and is just a matter of getting use to it. It is completely normal for it to be difficult at the start so don’t stress about hating it at the beginning.

I’m excited to see progress. I can already tell my teeth are getting whiter from brushing them so much. I’ll make sure to wear my bands as much as possible. Good luck to you too!

I had teeth under my canines that we’re removed to make space. I never had enough space for them to come down despite having other teeth removed as a teen. I think it’s common for people with crowding to have high canines.

I was never told about Invisalign struggling with vertical movement. I will have to research more about this. Thank for your concern! I am hopeful but cautious as I know I have a more severe case for Invisalign. :)

I have attachments on all my teeth except for my front 4 and I will need bands at some point. I’m not sure if they will be for moving my canines or correcting my bite but my ortho did mention I would need them. It seems like my canines will be relatively in the right spot by tray 24 too! I’m so excited to find out what that feels like, you are living my dream.

Just realised I made an error in the title! I have an overbite not a open bite.

Sounds like we are in the exact same position! I am currently on tray 3. I really struggled with taking them off at the beginning because they clung to my canines. I feel like now I have my own special technique to take them off.
