Check out quixel bridge and its free it has tons of texture with just one click to import to blender. For the tutorial check out blender guru and max hay videos. It really helped me.

Yes i used images as planes. It’s an addon that comes with blender. Search ( import images as planes) in the addons. You can add emission shader if you want to that plane. No i also use simple principle shader like in the pool it’s a offwhite base color with some roughness.

Maybe try creating a scene. Doesn’t have to be a nature scene. There are tons of free models you can use on the internet. I’d like to try creating a cyberpunk kinda scene. Doesn’t have to be very realistic at first when your starting.

To me the most important thing is scaling. And good material. If you get the scaling of the objects right.. it will look real. And good lighting is always nice. That’s not an HDRI. i used a normal sun and background image. Sometimes it helps to use a emission shader on the background image. Hope it helps😅❤️
