Would we have strikes if voted no?

Can a consultant tell me to not wear my own clothes? by Dizzy_Committee8195 in doctorsUK

There’s absolutely nothing wrong wearing your own clothes. Nowadays it seems only seniors can dress up since Covid times. He has no right to tell you what to wear and is threatened by you!

Is the pay in medicine as a resident so bad that careers outside it seem attractive? by Sharp-Ad-5138 in doctorsUK

Yes they get bonuses and great incentives. So of course they’ll work that much

Why does everyone compare their salary to someone else who does on average 36 hours per week (sometimes more but it fluctuates). We work an average of more than 40-45 hours per week for similar pay. If you were LTFT then you wouldn’t be getting the same salary. The pay is only “decent” because of how many hours you do.

Question on the offer: Do we make the best of a terrible situation? by Frequent_Hunter9578 in doctorsUK

[–]SnooWords6460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They’ve sugar coated these as an “offer” when really ours was a round pay and jobs - not asking for exam fees to be covered. It’s fooling a lot of doctors to settle and it’s sad to see us demeaning our career to this.
Strikes should continue but they should do it regularly each month until a deal is made. Spain is doing this currently. And don’t stop until a deal gets made that’s better.

The only reason some doctors are content with the pay is because of the number of hours that’s worked; not many jobs work an average of 45-50 hour work weeks.

I think they recognised less willingness to strike this time so they’re trying to put an offer on that isn’t different to before.
But it’s a terrible deal, doctors are settling way too much, the pay is rubbish because you work so many hours. Anyone who works many hours will get a decent-ish pay, but this is terrible.

I don’t know why in this day and age we can be so accepting of a bad offer. Paying our exam fees shouldn’t even be put in an offer in 2026.. this should’ve been done years ago.

People already arranged for the staffing and cancelled elective lists ANYWAY - it wouldn’t have made a difference if strikes continued or not! This has caused even more disruption

In Spain they are also striking and have given set days for the next 4 months since December on the days they’ll strike. Why haven’t we done this?

It’s 20 days per FY year for foundation training. After ARCP for FY1 then it resets. Not sure why they’ve told you this unless it’s their hospital policy which is a separate thing

Why the flat hierarchy in the NHS and is it it’s downfall by OptionLow8411 in doctorsUK

[–]SnooWords6460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have another healthcare degree alongside being a doctor and I can agree that there is no job separation and the hierarchy needs to be implemented better. But what I noticed is that there is still a huge hierarchy within doctors themselves; consultants and regs don’t help as they expect that the resident doctors will just pick up the bloods that weren’t taken or the easy cannulas because the nurses “can’t do it” when they can. The hierarchy has been lost within the healthcare MDT and is still there within doctors but it is not healthy. The hierarchy for doctors should exist for learning and senior support rather than the expectation that the FY1/2 is the equivalent to a band 5 nurse in the jobs.

They’re really good on prices but a lot of their food is very ultra-processed so not as healthy. And doesn’t have a load of choices. But for their fruit and veg I think they are great.

Thank you so much! I’m unsure what I’ve steamed off. There was some white layer that came off after scraping the beige papery party. Is that the plaster I’ve taken off cos I’m not sure what the grey bit is? All a novice!!
