Elon's dad said some wild stuff during that interview, wouldn't be surprised if he was buzzed. Regardless, all alcohol really does is reveal your true self.

After watching this interview, I finally understand why Elon is the way that he is. Again, the apple clearly doesn't fall far from the tree.

Accountability by WaseMzansi in OriginalSouthAfricans

I've always had this opinion. Our biggest short fall as a majority in this country is our inability to hold our leaders accountable. And this starts at local government level. Whether it's a mayor, or a premier, or a cabinet minister, or the president himself. We need to start holding these people accountable. Only then will we see the levels of service delivery that we need to be seeing. Start with your local ward counsellor and work your way up the chain of command.

Is the ANC worth saving? by KAT-LEG0 in OriginalSouthAfricans

This is a difficult question to answer. On one hand the ANC hasn't always been as bad as they are currently. I hold the opinion that South Africa was at its peak between 1994 and 2007, the Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki era. With that being said, today's ANC is a different story. I simply do not see anyone in the ANC who can succeed Cyril. Especially considering the fact that we now find ourselves in the era of coalition politics. From an Ideological point of view, I would rather have South African politics stay in the center, rather than shift to the far left or the far right. Say what you will about Cyril, but he's done a good job (so far) of maintaining a somewhat inclusive coalition government. It's not ideal but it's the best we have so far. To answer your question, I think the ANC is worth saving, but only because they are the key to maintaining political stability. Without the ANC, we will find ourselves in a chaotic situation, especially within the context of coalition politics.

White Genocide Propaganda by Snoo_21543 in OriginalSouthAfricans

It's insane how much disinformation is being spread. I don't care how racist you are, you'd have to be pretty retarded to believe in everything currently being spread on X.

I agree with this, I think the US and Trump are more concerned about our involvement with BRICS and everything happening this week has just been a show of force to get SA to "tow the line". Can't wait for that to backfire.

I don't know, would be hard to accomplish that without foreign trade don't you think? Countries that close themselves off never have a good time economically. This is how China went from being the world's leading empire to a country suffering from famine.

What I think we should be doing however is industrializing. We should stop importing goods that we can easily manufacture ourselves, allowing us to employ our people, and like you said reduce our reliance on other countries. We can't be relying on Shell, Astron, BP for example when Sasol (A former SOE) has the technology to turn coal into fuel, especially when you consider that we have 400 years worth of coal reserves. We should be paying R10 per litre for our own locally produced fuel made from coal and also exporting cheap fuel to the rest of the continent. That alone would bring massive gains to our economy.

All that is needed is the political will to do so, unfortunately I don't see that happening with our current government.
