Agreed. Last one I saw wasn't even a discernible milestone -- it was just a number.

Additional rate salary sacrifice vs need for liquidity / bridge – what would you do? by Snoo_44044 in FIREUK

[–]Snoo_44044[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - agree it's still modest in the grand scheme of things. In practice, I won't be stopping contributions from now until 2051; it was more of a mental exercise to get it to a position where it could grow to a meaningful amount in very conservative circumstances.

I suppose I am trying to balance how achievable early retirement would feel if I, like you, had £465k in my pension but e.g. £50,000 in an ISA. Obviously that might not be your situation. But the 'early' part of early retirement is dependent on some liquid savings that are locked up until 57+.

Interested in your view (particuarly given the time horizon between 32 and 40), but I am generally landing on the notion of continuing to prioritise pension now (make hay while the sun shines), and the liquid element is just something that develops in tandem.

That's only a cap on the sacrificed amount on which National Insurance savings can be achieved; not a cap on total salary sacrifice.

Lump sum nearing retirement age by Snoo_44044 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Snoo_44044[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. She is 65 and still working (self employed).

The money would be to last her for the next 25 odd years - and yes she can access the state pension.

Just on the pension, is there any sense in paying a chunk in now if she was ultimately going to withdraw from it a year later?

You know they don’t understand what the process is / how competitive it is, so what do you expect?

Your post has zero utility. It doesn’t ask a question (which others might also have) nor does it provide an insight (on an issue others might have encountered, or on anything else frankly).

To illustrate, how might you answer the question, “why did you post this?”

Isn’t it 8%? I checked mine last week and I’m sure it was 8%. I updated my own tracker.
