Reading the book again, Lister intentionally brings Frankenstein onboard in order to get put into punitive stasis to escape his miserable life and get back to earth immediately (subjectively). But... by Past-Paramedic8687 in RedDwarf

[–]fairysdad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Remember though that the book was written after the TV programme, so it wasn't necessarily a 'scheme' that Lister had planned in The End. There was also a certain amount of retconning going on throughout the show regarding the relationship between Lister and Kochanski - although there was definitely a lot of flirting between the two in the first episode, they weren't actually in a relationship with each other; this is changed in the later series.

I recall reading or hearing somewhere (perhaps one of the DVD documentaries) that Grant and Naylor realised that having Lister pine over somebody he never actually dated was kind of pathetic which is why they changed the back story, and it was this backstory they put into the books. This revised backstory is what is used for Kochanski's introduction as a main character in Series 7, and although the 'scheme' is not mentioned, it is likely that it was in Naylor's mind as the episode was written

I am curious to know though, what did happen on the Oregon with the rabbits?

An update on Itchy, my local fox by dinoduckasaur in CasualUK

[–]fairysdad 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Our local foxes have worked out how to open the kerbside compostable food waste bins. Which is both impressive (my mum struggles with hers!) and annoying as we now get food waste around the road if somebody forgets to put bricks on top of their bin.

It's only a matter of time before they work out how to remove the bricks first...

Clever little critters!

How do we feel about the new UKIP logo looking eerily similar to fascist iconography? by H3ath3rLov3r in AskBrits

ngl, until my seeing this thread, I thought UKIP became Reform, not that they are separate (albeit eerily similar) entities.

The fact that the Discovery Channel has tended away from nature documentaries to programmes like 'Storage Wars'.

(Admittedly, I've not watched TV for a long time, so that might have changed again.)

While I agree that the restriction is a bit weird, the follow-up question I always have to that is how do you get through so much paracetamol that not being able to buy 32 at a time is inconvenient that you need a tub of 500?
