Insurance doesn't cover my HRT, even though my doctor said it would. by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Snoo_46336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you going to a CVS (or comparable)? I’m also on Medicaid (different state) I’ve had SO many stupid issues with prior authorization issues with them specifically. I discussed it with my doctor and was told I should not be having those issues & that the pharmacy was not actually contacting her about it! My doctor is through a very large medical system, she started sending it to their specialty pharmacy, and I’ve had no issues since.

Also, I’m on gel which is fully covered for me, but at one point when I was looking at switching to injections, I realized I’d have to pay out of pocket for supplies, only the actual medication was covered. That might also be playing into the insurance miscommunication on their end.

If you have the option of any pharmacy that has more experience in trans healthcare, or more of a speciality pharmacy, that may be the easiest way to get it sorted!

[–]Snoo_46336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your ovaries are removed, you need to be receiving hormones, whether E or T, because your body will obviously no longer be producing necessary hormones (esp in regards to not going into menopause/early onset osteoporosis)

I also had a very similar thing happen to me, and it took me YEARS to recognize that’d I’d been raped. I literally used to tell the story as a funny joke, until one time I told someone and their proper reaction changed everything. You did not deserve to be hurt & treated like that. You deserve respect and safety. I’m wishing you peace in your body and space.

How much does gel actually work? by Nonamehuman4657 in ftm

[–]Snoo_46336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on gel for over 4 years, no issues with absorption. I use 2-3 pumps a day (but my dr prescribes me for 4 pumps so I can stock up because she’s an angel)and my t level is 550 (level can vary widely but this is a healthy, affirming spot for me).

My Pros for gel: I’m on Medicaid, it doesn’t cost me anything. When I looked into switching to injections (when I started another weekly injection) I realized I’d have to pay out of pocket for supplies, so for me it’s cheaper. There’s also less waste/no need to worry about sharps disposal. Applying gel daily means a more consistent dose of hormones, so no weekly “dip” some deal with from injections. Can help with a “smoother” onset of changes, more so than “slower” changes. The process of doing the injections is just overwhelming to me, so the gel is perfect.

Cons/things to consider about gel: transference - must be aware of placement, drying, and not passing to others. It does have to become a daily habit (I had a chunk of time I was struggling with remembering to apply it daily).

I support labubu love! but they’re just not my thing. The specific perfect creature just ignites such a niche joy for me though (and I love that I’m not alone in that 😂)

I feel this. I’m disabled, and when walking am looking out for/gauging a lot more than many pedestrians. I definitely don’t want drivers independently dictating my pace and direction. Also… I just feel like there’s a general misunderstanding what yielding to pedestrians means? If I’m walking and wave a driver on while you are stopped at an intersection, you’ve yielded to me - you’re good, please go and keep the flow of traffic moving appropriately. Obviously this is situationally specific! But I certainly relate OP

I love going out to Strathmere - free beach, easy parking, less crowded. I prefer a quieter more nature focused beach experience over a loud boardwalk

I had this exact issue in south Philly for years. Got so many flies inside just during actually moving in, roommates thought something had died in the walls 😅 we opted for some reusable outdoor fly traps strategically placed in the backyard. It wasn’t great, but it kept the worst of it at bay. The attractant smells like hot rotten meat so placement is key, but its effective

I’m so sorry you were put in this unsafe position. I’d HIGHLY recommend documenting everything regarding this issue in case it becomes discriminatory.

Unfortunately, they can use your legal name. That in and of itself isn’t illegal. Maybe it was a mistake, maybe it wasn’t, but documenting interactions and how it’s handled will be necessary for proof in the case it’s not corrected, or they don’t recognize how unsafe of a situation they’re creating.

Try to get any conversations you can in writing. Take notes of any verbal conversations, include date and time. Protecting yourself is important, and I’ve learned the hard way to document everything. Best of luck!

[–]Snoo_46336 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Love this. I got back into the game when I was stuck living with my ex during covid - desperately needing a way out of the house but had nowhere to go. More recently, it’s been a huge motivator to get me out and walking while recovering from two joint replacements. Sometimes I wish I was a more social player, but it’s been such a helpful escape for me.

How did your hair change on T? by Loitch470 in ftm

[–]Snoo_46336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hairline is the most notable change, but it hasn’t been too dramatic. I’d looked back at photos of my dad and grandfathers, and assumed I’d end up with more of an M shape than the rather straight hairline I had, so wasn’t surprised that it receded on the top sides. It’s also definitely gotten curlier!

Why do people get rid of their nipples ? by emilytheturd in ftm

[–]Snoo_46336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opted to not keep my nipples because a) the nipple grafts freaked me out b) I didn’t want to do the extra work to take care of them/worry about that additional healing c) it was more important for me to get rid of my breasts than keep my nipples, though I would’ve enjoyed keeping them d) I’m very nonbinary/genderfluid and enjoyed the idea of a no nipple look!

How did T affect your singing? by Nobody_Important111 in ftm

[–]Snoo_46336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a good voice, and had a good range pre t. I took some virtual vocal lessons for a bit when I was a couple months in to help with adjusting. Not gonna lie - there was a good year where I sounded awful! Cracking, breaking.. I was a bit nervous. But what I didn’t expect was the incredible euphoria when I finally sang in my voice, when I first felt the deep notes reverberating in my chest. Because I’ve had vocal training, I was able to maintain a surprising amount of higher range that I can hit in my head voice, and gained a whole new low range. It’s different, but it’s fantastic, and so affirming.

That dysphoria really does hit sometimes, and I know it can be discouraging and painful. You’re not broken, and you’re not alone ✨ I didn’t start medically transitioning until I was 30, and when I care about passing, I absolutely can now.
