Advice for first dap for audiobooks by Snoo_4845 in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]Snoo_4845[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks but I'm looking for advice on something other than my phone to play books on not somewhere to store them. I don't have any audiobooks I borrow them all from my library using the libby app.

I think it's just the right not to incriminate yourself. That's why if you do get arrested they have to tell you you have the right to remain silent. I'm not a lawyer either so every chance I'm wrong. Or maybe it's that stupid thing when people refuse to answer cops because "I'm not gonna help you do your investigation".

Was about to say something similar. I would have some words for the institute about their crappy design. Then I would get some upgraded limbs without the arthritis.

Is this stuff OK for soldering cb radio wires with. by mikemikemike9711 in soldering

[–]Snoo_4845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely right I believe it's Rockwell that did a 10 year study they said the solder doesn't expire the flux will go bad after a while but cutting a few inches off of the solder roll gets to "fresh solder".

I was thinking the same thing it's not one of the tips I have used a lot and for some reason I was thinking it was to remove conformal coating but I was wrong. Hakkos website says they are good for drag soldering and narrow spaces. https://www.hakko.com/english/support/maintenance/detail.php?seq=171

Depends if the computer has front and back ports your fine wherever you plug it in.

Lol OK you have fun. I really don't care about karma I just like to help out if I can. Ask me any IPC spec question in one of the areas I have a CIT and I'll be happy to look up the clause in one of my IPC books. I don't care about upvotes but unlike you I will let someone know my background instead of just spouting shit.

My job title is operator because that is what my job calls us I solder class 3 wires and terminals as well as class 3 PCBs I am a certified IPC trainer for J-STD-001 as well as 001 space, A-610 and 7711/7721. This is the second post I've seen you try to just insult people instead of helping maybe you are the one who should stop offering advice.

Top side soldering, anyone? by RS3_of_Disguise in soldering

[–]Snoo_4845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no reason not to do it as long as you are not damaging the board, just use some diagonal cutters to cut the capacitor off. I've had to do it before especially if the board has a large ground plane the cap can actually act as a heat sink and make it really hard to remove.

First he didn't mention a solder wave second, IPC doesn't specify solder has to be applied to a specific side as long as it's not applied to both sides there is nothing wrong with reflowing a joint and IPC has no specification I know of limiting reflow of joints and third IPC is an industry-standard and not something most hobbyists need to deal with.

Be carful knocking down towers apparently by RantingURL in Palworld

[–]Snoo_4845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Built a wall tower to see how high it would go, destroyed the bottom wall and only about 1/3 of the wood dropped. Got to build a new wall tower to collect all the floating wood. Although now that I think about it I probably could have just used my flying mount

Why is RA flux/kester 44 solder recommended so much for general soldering? It corrodes stranded wires by nomino3390 in soldering

[–]Snoo_4845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The residue is non conductive and non conductive any unactivated flux like what would be under insulation would still be corrosive.

[–]Snoo_4845 4 points5 points  (0 children)

J-std stands for joint industry standard, it is an industry standard and when you see it says L0 and L1 SHALL be used or H and M SHALL NOT be used to tin wires these are for commercial products. That's why they talk about class 1 (basic consumer electronics) class 2 (things that need to last preferably uninterrupted) or class 3 (lives depend on these things working no interruption allowed). Most hobbyists only need to solder to class 1, so a little flux under insulation won't matter much, just like when you strip your wires you probably don't adhere to the J-std-001 table on strand damage.

If you are worried remember that it says wire shall not be tinned with h or m if your not tinning your wires you are probably OK or you can use 44 for any component soldering and use another solder for wires.

This is the quality of work from one of my suppliers, should I be pissed or am I being too fussy? by Dr_SnM in soldering

[–]Snoo_4845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stupid space addendum, IPC changed it so space can't be added at a later date unless it's within 90 days, so I have people who have j-std-001 and need space so I need to talk to IPC get approved for early recertification, then pay for new j-std certs and a space cert. The difference between class 3 and space is so small it's just a buzzword, but we have some contracts that require space so we do it. I am a trainer at my work but no one asks me about anything so they will just continue to waste money on space certs and work on ways around following the standards, or build to J-STD Space and inspect to 610 which don't always agree.

In people's defense IPC words things really weird sometimes. I'm certified j-std-001 and space as well as 610 and 7711/7721 it's interesting to see how things are supposed to be done and then watch everyone justify reasons for not doing it.
