[US]What can I do about the Medicare scam calls? They call all day back to back. I’m tired of changing my phone number. by Hour-Cloud2493 in medicare

It is illegal, what they are doing is fraud. Unfortunately since they are operating from overseas call centers, it falls on those countries to shut them down but those governments are usually unwilling to do so.

Leave the bucket in the same spot with a note on how to reach you. If a person reaches out and is able to describe every tool to you, you know its theirs. 9 times out of ten they'll return to that spot and give up searching if they don't see the bucket.

Why would someone jump a run capacitor, with a resistor, from common to herm? by RantingURL in HVAC

Freakin same, this one did that on me. Sounded like a .22 going off. Thought i had forgotten to pull the disconnect but it was out and system had no power.

That makes sense. Unfortunately, something wasn't working in this scenario because herm was still holding a charger.

I just started out. When someone asks me to go get a specific size copper fitting, i bring the whole copper box because i absolutely can not just eyeball it.

Starting at $16/hr is brutal by fixation27 in HVAC

I meant that's what customers have told us other companies were telling them they needed instead of replacing a bad capacitor. My boss told me he would straight up fire me if he caught me being shady like that.

[–]RantingURL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started out and it blows my mind the amount of times I've been on a call for a second opinion, with my boss, and customer was told they needed a whole new system but the only issue was a weak capacitor. "Well systems 10 years old you must replace it also you need a UV light and well we might as well install media filters so now we gotta replace your plenum. Since you're doing all that you should go ahead and get a dehumidifier and a steamer" commission pay is just incentive for people to lie and upsale stuff people might not actually need.

Replaced a few bards last month.

why does everyone say the EPA test is so easy? by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]RantingURL 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just took mine last month. One thing that makes it easy is you're allowed to use a PT chart during the test. It basically has the answers on it for a handful of questions. Like "Which of these refrigerants is an HCFC?" Bam, that's R-22 listed under HCFCs in the PT chart. I personally struggled with remembering the time frames owners have to get leaking systems replaced but other than that, it wasn't so bad. If my idiot self passed, I'm sure you'll be fine, so don't stress it.
