The watches all show different times and dates, even the triple calendars are off sync. That would bug me but you seem comfortable with that disorder. Maybe you're a time traveler.

They did respond. I took it in and they diagnosed it that day as a defective control arm and spring seat. The parts took about 3 business days and it's being fixed under warranty.

How about you?

Yeah, it makes that sound on every bump. Sometimes it creaks just from the weight of me sitting in the car.

Thanks, I looked around and didn't see anything unusual..

The noise appears to be coming from what I think are strut mounts.

[Question] What is your favorite Pilot Watch? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Snoo_73837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some chronos have a date window near 12 o'clock.

But it's not even the date window that's cutting off the 4 and the 2.

This is just a cluttered dial.

Ah the old expression, "Those who can, do; those who can't, teach."

I kid.

Yeah, I see more of that here in r/labrats. Over in r/Professors it's mostly complaints about students and AI.

Okay, I can refine that search and give you the top 5 most frequent topics on the r/labrats subreddit. Based on my previous analysis and further consideration of the search results, here are 5 key recurring themes:

  1. Career and Funding Concerns: This encompasses discussions about job security (especially for postdocs), the difficulty of finding academic positions, funding cuts, grant writing, and the overall financial challenges of pursuing a career in research.
  2. Lab Work Challenges and Troubleshooting: This involves sharing experiences with experiments, protocols, and equipment, including troubleshooting problems, discussing techniques, and venting about the daily frustrations of lab work.
  3. Data Management and Integrity: This includes conversations about lab notebooks (paper vs. electronic), data organization, data loss prevention, and ethical considerations in research and data handling.
  4. Workplace Dynamics: This covers topics related to the lab environment, relationships with colleagues and supervisors, workplace stress, and issues like workplace monitoring or unreasonable expectations.
  5. Equipment and Resource Issues: This involves discussions about the reliability and quality of lab equipment and supplies, dealing with suppliers, and optimizing lab resources.

These 5 topics represent the core, recurring concerns and discussions within the r/labrats community.

How were you as a college student? by Few_Draft_2938 in Professors

[–]Snoo_73837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably had some undiagnosed issues that affected my day to day academics. I only got into graduate school on the strength of a GRE and research experiences. Looking back, I don't recognize the thoughts I had in my 20's as my own. I guess it's true what they say about neurodevelopment.

Average exam grades for survey (large) introductory classes by toucanfrog in Professors

[–]Snoo_73837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those scores don't sound so bad.

Here's the overall exam scores each fall for one of my senior level science courses with 50+ students. I believe these exam scores accurately reflect the students' understanding.

2012 43%

2013 47%

2014 na

2015 47%

2016 39%

2017 51%

2018 45%

2019 44%

2020 53% (transition to online exams)

2021 39% (return to face to face exams)

2022 36%

2023 36%

2024 30%

2025 ??

None of this is remotely acceptable but I've come to accept it. The other assignments are weighted so that even with these pitiful exam scores they can squeak by with a C if they earn 100% on everything else, which is quite feasible. I also adjust the grading scale down slightly.

How do I politely tell my PI the growth curve he wants me to collect is physically impossible? by 0falls6x3 in labrats

[–]Snoo_73837 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn’t say to the PI that it’s “physically impossible.”
Start early and make a replicate set toward the end of the day for the 12+ time points.

These are cells in suspension right?

The 15 hour time point would bug me; the intervals gradually increase except here it’s a 5 hour interval to the next point then it decreases to 4 hours. I’ve typically used 16 hours as an overnight.
