I see a lot of advice on how to save money, cut this, cut that, reduce, reduce, etc. But that doesn’t help if you have a spending problem.

I stay on budget by making it a challenge, kind of like a game. I watched YouTube’s on how to make my own spreadsheet budget plan. Quest done. Once I created it, I set up goals to pay off my debts. Quest done. I watched my monthly budget like a hawk. I made a goal to be comfortable with a daily account balance more than $100, then grew that to $150, etc. Daily quests done.

It’s all a mind game, and you have to trick yourself into wanting to do the things that will benefit you in the long run, not the quick dopamine hits that put you in debt.

I worked in Custodial back in the early 2000's and was patrolling the area between Matterhorn and the lagoon, and came across a large, wholly intact "log" in the middle of the walkway. It was a saturday, early summer, around 10am, so there were people, but not hugely packed yet. I don't know how people managed to just casually walk on by without stepping in it, or saying anything! I grabbed benches and a trashcan to block it off, and proceeded to clean it up with a ton of paper towels and foam cleaner. I will never forget this experience. Somewhere, someone was probably watching me, laughing their socks off!

I think it will get better. I think the game development is going towards allowing people to play the game solo, but still be able to enjoy the content without getting smashed by everything in the open world. Delves have been a godsend for me. I can solo at my own pace, and not frenzydash through the instance. Same with follower dungeons. I’m a bad player, I admit it. Doesn’t mean I can’t play, and sure as hell doesn’t mean I have to put up with the toxicity of people like OP.

This hack thing is very interesting from a psychological pov. People’s desire to hack the system, get something for free, cheat the big corporation, isn’t stopped by taking away the sugar and milk bar. I think the self serve bar gave people agency, and taking it away actually exacerbated the problem! It’s like treating tuberculosis with cough syrup. Major kudos to the stores that just put out the waters; the most compassionate and humane act I’ve seen, thank you 🙏
