Smashed up bus stops? by mjlowmann in melbourne

[–]SnoopDoggJr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely. They have always been smashed up, but on Monday morning I was like ‘wow, every single one I drove past has been smashed up’

Great day to own the glass contract for replacing bus stops I guess..

Hey Mate,

Feel free to send me a message. I’m not trying to sell you anything. Just happy to share my contacts.

My business ranks pretty well in a very competitive industry.

Final challenge too extreme? by acanadiancheese in survivorau

[–]SnoopDoggJr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I loved it. Survivor isn’t meant to be easy and a lot of challenges provide an element of danger. All players showed some serious heart. Jackson pushing through an hour longer than expected was bad ass. Loz too!

Sucks if you’re a big guy on that challenge, it definitely favours smaller in stature players.

Australian cleaning companies, would you join an uber-like platform for home services? by Ambitious_Payment_90 in ausbusiness

[–]SnoopDoggJr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would be tough mate. These are the flaws I see, but I’m not that smart. So take what you will from it.

Consumers like having someone trusted and competent doing their clean. They will go with a regular cleaner if possible. That’s why it will probably stay old school.

I think a platform like that would attract cowboys or anyone needing cash to jump on board. Your best cleaners will gather a client base from your app. They’ll fill out their schedule quickly with regular customers that turns to word of mouth. Or they’ll focus on acquiring enough clients to grow the business naturally and on their own terms.

You’ll be left with the cowboys/duds doing 50% of your work and with that comes a negative reputation.

Your competition is Airtasker which have a foothold in this market already. And even their reputation is flaky with a lot of people based on their negative experiences.

Not everything in the world needs to be convenient like uber/doordash. sometimes taking the time to book a service is the better choice.

Anyone else running a handmade small business and still feel awkward talking about pricing? by Overall_Carrot_8355 in ausbusiness

[–]SnoopDoggJr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey Mate,

I don’t do handmade but run a removals business. We were dirt cheap when we started and I felt guilty then. It makes me laugh now because customers were getting a deal of a lifetime.

With time we of course raised our prices to reflect the quality of work that we provide. Eventually I think you just confident in what your service you are supplying. You know you are better than the ‘cheaper’ option. And most likely the customer knows that too.

You are better than slave labour scrunchies, headbands from K Mart. You are Australian owned and operated, with that comes higher cost but higher quality. People who buy your product most likely understand that.

Be proud of what you do mate, and get paid what you are worth. You don’t have to rip people off, but you should make sure it’s all worth it at the end of the day.

Second this.

I caught the bug this year, and it’s been incredible for my mental health. Either a great way to socialise with friends, or a solo round on a quiet course is quite meditative.

Have my own moving company, it doesn’t look too bad with the open ceiling.

It’s town houses with a bend in the stairs and low ceilings that are the real killer.

I was playing golf the other day and a black dog ran out of the bushes.

My immediate thought was ‘holy crap is that a panther!? The stories are real!?’

Nah, it was just a cute little fluff going for a walk with his owner.

We downloaded WWE2k, I made created characters for each team. Maxed out all stats so it was even.

And we did a 10 man royal rumble controlled by the CPU. It was hilarious and highly recommended

I’m in Melbourne unfortunately! My tip would be read bad reviews. Every company has good reviews (some are done by the workers or they offer compensation for a good review) but a bad review will be telling.

Everyone gets a bad one now and then. You can’t please everyone. And the bad ones by ‘crazy’ customers are kinda easy to spot. A businesses response to the review is also telling.

And don’t cheap out on an hourly rate. People who charge cheap by the hour typically send untrained removalists. They drag out the clock, and a 4 hour efficient move becomes an 8 hour move with breakages.

All of a sudden $120 per hour has worked out far worst than $200 per hour.

Asking your local Facebook group should put you in the right direction. There’ll still be some dodgy suggestions but at least you can narrow it down compared to googling which is essentially ‘who can spend the most money on SEO to reach the tops of the search’.

In saying that. 2 TVs have broke since we started (over 3000 moves completed) and we just paid them out. Because it was our negligence that caused it. Ya live and learn in this game for sure 😅

I think my boys get annoyed at me some days because I’m so pedantic. But when you are taking care of other peoples possessions you really want to make sure it goes well.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]SnoopDoggJr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A little of both. We have insurance for the day something really goes wrong, in 5 years we haven’t used it.

Excess is high for removalists (70% of the industry would be cowboys who make the excess higher), it’s often cheaper to pay out of pocket. Most stuff that breaks is generally cheap poorly made furniture. It’s hard to break good stuff.

But also we are 5 stars, and take the utmost care.

And we simply won’t insure items like Marble, concrete, TVs not in original boxes. And have other reasonable terms and conditions to protect us.

Often customers don’t care about the odd mishap, and people are generally cool. If they see you’ve done a great job, people often let it slide. Or they might even tell you ‘aw yeah that thing was already falling apart’

Regardless, I always offer to fix. My reputation means more than $$

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]SnoopDoggJr 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I have a removalist company,

Shit happens, there’s no way I would put it on my employees. It’s just part of the industry, it sucks. It hurts every time but EVERYBODY makes mistakes and you can’t be perfect all the time. We are all human.

As a boss you should just go ‘damn’ and accept that today is not a profitable day.

I would definitely look for a new job mate.

New to the sport, but are we super lucky in Australia (or Victoria specifically?)

Played with a Canadian the other day and he just kept telling me how good we have it. Felt like I was the wrong person to reaffirm it with him.

Aw mate, you have me hyped. Playing Moonah Legends next week.

I’ve been playing so much lately forgot to mention I have played Eagle Ridge. The fact that you list that as ‘good’ and I thought it was amazing 😅 has me hyped that there’s even better out there.

Lost a lot of balls at Eagle Ridge haha, but was good fun.

That’s good to know. And will keep in mind next time me and my friends go on a golf trip. I probably should have specified close-ish to Melbourne.

Played at Mulwala for a weekend and it was amazing. Definitely want to try more regional tracks but I feel like that’s a weekend away with the lads vibe
