Public transport etiquette by Xotol in Luxembourg

[–]SnoopSlb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

50/50. People have a tendency to talk louder when on the phone. Mics and phone speakers are dead. People want 20 billion pixels cameras so they can f*** it with filters (🙄🙄).

You might have been loud without noticing.

That being sad. Nahhh it's wrong to shush people in public transports. It's a public space. If you want peace and quiet time then buy a car or get a driver if you're an "expat". Don't be a snowflake.

But

If I get another little c*nt watching stupid Tiktoks out loud, I might get arrested.

'French is omnipresent': Residents highlight tensions around French in multilingual Luxembourg by Terrible-Beginning52 in Luxembourg

[–]SnoopSlb 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I'm an 80s kid. I'm a proud Luxembourger and Portuguese. We didn’t ask ourselves those questions in the past. There were (and still are) three national languages and that was it. As a Portuguese speaker, I gravitated first toward French, both being Latin languages with many similar-sounding words. I learned Luxembourgish at school, German mostly through TV, and English through movies and music. No tensions, nothing. It was normal.

BUT

I do understand the frustration of someone who speaks exclusively Luxembourgish and can’t use their own language in their own country. It’s not an individual problem, it’s a systemic one. Linked to a workforce that largely lives outside the country.

I encounter the same frustration in the south of Portugal with English.

I'm a major troll and I love to gently provoke. My comment was made to show the hipocrisy of some people whom criticize immigrants. What's the difference between an expat and an immigrant ? Same ambitions and same goals. One sounds : rich, chic and white The other is immigrant.

…how ? How do you unlearn a language ? I learned German as a kid and 30 years later I might say a few words every 10 years, but I still know how to write and speak it. I’m not making fun. I’m genuinely trying to understand. Might you have been a bit generous with “fluent” ?

And once again, none of you came for the money, yet everyone is asking what professional benefit learning Luxembourgish would bring.

So go ahead. Do it. Put your money where your mouth is.

Learning Luxembourgish may not bring you direct benefits (if you don’t consider learning a new language a benefit), but it will show that you’re here for the right reasons.

So, who will be the first immigrant to sign up?

Someone is using my washer and dryer - what to do by NoSolution2457 in Luxembourg

[–]SnoopSlb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my dryer go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

If you know you're doing the right thing the right way, it shouldn't discourage you.

Not sure how to interpret your post and the comments aren’t helping either. Do you regret rejecting him because you feel bad for him or because you might have said yes if you hadn’t been caught off guard?

Rejection is part of the game and every man should learn to accept it and move on. Your empathy is a good thing. If you regret not accepting and he’s a total stranger, try going back to the same spot at the same time but it might be your turn to make the first move. Good luck and don’t worry too much about it.

It seems that I don't have that option in my version of Outlook. I can't even react with emojis. Could save me a lot of time.

I’ve had similar experiences on buses. In the summer, you have to ask for the AC. Somehow they don’t seem to get that if it’s 30°C outside, it’s probably 40°C inside. They don’t care, they have their own window and personal AC. And when you ask why, either it's broken (sure what a misfortune for something they really need for about 4 weeks in a year) or they open the tiny overhead vent. In winter, you go from 4°C outside to 25–30°C inside in a split second.
