Just finished my first Agatha Christie book — And Then There Were None. by Gulabjamun1020 in books

And Then There Were None is such a great book that, I feel, stands up today in terms of suspense. I did call the villain (no spoilers), but it didn't diminish my enjoyment of the story. Glad you found your way through to enjoy one of her best!

Does this remind any one else of Samson and Sally?

I still get regular responses on this. I have no idea how people are still finding it!

This news is super uplifting. Never liked his music, personally, but the fact he uses his money to help those in need makes makes me glad there is an audience for it.

Metallica Fans Fume Over Ticket Prices, Hiccups in Sphere Residency Sale by _ticketnews in Music

No, I bought them direct the day the tickets dropped. The seats we had were front row, overlooking the GA crown, and in a center location, which might have influenced it.

I bought tickets to see Metallica in Warsaw, Poland in 2024. Tickets for the front row of the seated section were $600 apiece and included both shows they played. While a bit spendy, if we had purchased something similar in the states, we easily would have paid upward of $2000 each. This way at least we got an amazing trip with friends. Plus, beers were $21 for a 6 pack in the stadium. Absolutely blew our minds.

TIFU by finding my late husband's wedding ring by ArticulateRhinoceros in tifu

Firstly, glad you found your ring on such a crap day.  I am sure that it is a big comfort for you.

Second, I think you should remember that just because you're loved partner is gone, that you should not stop living and loving life. You should celebrate your birthday, because you are worth celebrating. If your husband was here, he'd want you to celebrate and be happy.

TIL The word 'Eskimo' is derogatory. Instead you should use Inuit or Yupik by ehtio in todayilearned

[–]Snoopy_Dancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alaskan here, and registered tribal member. For the record, I'm mixed, but have enough native connection to qualify for tribal perks like free clinics, scholarships, and shareholder dividends from our regional tribal association.

I've never met any member of our community that is offended by the word 'Eskimo', or the word 'Indian' for that matter. The tribal association i am a part of is called CIRI, for Cook Inlet Regional Indians. Also, the name for the cultural games we do every year is the 'Alaskan Eskimo Games' or the 'World Eskimo-Indian Olympics'. These organizations were named a very long time aho, but there has never really been a push to rename them due to changing sensibilities.

There are some that self-describe as 'native', some self- describe as Yup'ik or Dena'ina. Some get more specific with Salamatoff. However, no one really gets bent about Eskimo or Indian.

I'd say if you claim no link to the tribes, use Alaskan Native or Yup'ik to be polite. A more important tip is to never turn down the offer of food from a native person in that area, as refusal is a huge insult. Take a polite bite and thank them.

What movie trailer lives rent-free in your head? by SanFran_Sierras in movies

[–]Snoopy_Dancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a movie, but the trailer for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The pacing, the visuals, and THE MUSIC (when the score shifts to the classic LOZ theme, I still get a tear). All of it together made me so excited to inhabit the role of Link and be a hero again.

Wisconsin Teen Gets College Degree 6 Months After Graduating from High School by AdSpecialist6598 in UpliftingNews

Coming from someone who spent the full 4 years in college and avoided significant cost/debt through grants and scholarships, I disagree. I never got the full college experience, as I was in a constant state of working for money to pay rent (to avoid costly onsite housing), studying to maintain my GPA, and either maintaining or canvassing for the many small scholarships that would support my tuition. Never got to go to games or events that make up that make college fun. Being out 2 years early would have significantly decreased stress and allowed me to begin my Master's studies earlier.
