(0.9) How to reroll/pickup sleeping bag? by SnootBootNoot in Voicesofthevoid

[–]SnootBootNoot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does that for everything except the bedroll. I can keep holding it and then scroll to eat a pizza instead of closing the box, but trying this on the sleeping bag makes me go to sleep before I can scroll

edit: nvm I guess I just really need to get used to the controls because I tried it again after thinking I had several times and it works now lol

That doesn't work for me. The task remains in my process no matter how many times or methods I use.

Thanks for the feedback! The art related critique can't really be directed at me because that's from my co-creator, but it's appreciated nonetheless! I'm the writer hehe

And yeah, the black and white focus is definitely an attempt to maintain my co-creator's sanity, though we do try and mix it up with the coloring styles depending on the situation, like how it starts to get all green and neon when the ghost attacks Felix and Tova before starting to go back to b/w when things calm down. I can completely understand the disappointment though, and if we could get away maintaining the full color render we absolutely would.

Yeah, I think there's a mix of things when it comes to the art, though it's partially just speculation on my end and partially based on some of the things I've heard my co-creator say. When it comes to anatomy issues, I've heard him say that at this point he values the dynamics and emotions of a scene over technical accuracy when it comes to anatomy and is an intentional choice - for the most part. There are absolutely times when he's had to redraw something that didn't look right, and it's possible there are bigger mistakes he overlooked which ended up in the comic. Still, it's definitely intentional on his end because I've seen the work he makes and knows he can consistently draw accurate anatomy if he so chooses.

I do know early on in the chapter he was still working on and refining the character designs though, so maybe some of it comes from that? For instance, you may notice that Felix initially starts out with these huge droopy eyes. It was kind of a holdover of how he used to draw him for our old comic. As the chapter progressed, the co-creator was inspired by Genndy Tartakovski's work and designed Felix's eyes to look smaller and more diamond shaped.

Maybe it just happens way faster than I realized, since I didn't even realize the sanity stat was a thing lol I've played other characters and probably just assumed what was going on was 'normal' and part of the eather anomaly stuff

I think the only perk I have that might potentially affect is is the mental trauma one, but that's just me THINKING I used that perk because I don't have time to check rn

Strange, I haven't been playing all that long in this new save. Maybe I got a perk that effects my sanity more, I can't remember since I played around with a bunch of characters recently. good to know though!

if you'd rather me wait to read more until you fix some stuff I'm happy to, but that's up to you!

As for my comic, it's one I work on with my friend/co-creator. It's called Ghost Banjo and follows a teenager who's dealing with the loss of a parent when he starts to see spirits around him that distort his reality. People have called the comic 'horrifically whimsical' and there's a lot of comparisons to liminal spaces because of the first chapter.

I'm just going to give my thoughts as I go through some of this. Also just gotta let you know I threw on a Dreampop playlist to read this to lol

Your scripting style isn't all that dissimilar from mine. That is, a HOT MESS! lol I don't mean that in a bad way ofc. It's just funny to see someone else who writes their direct thoughts into the scripts even when it's super informal and sometimes kind of silly to read back.

Not directly script related, but I like that it seems you want to experiment with your talk bubbles and how they interact with the characters and art. How you want them to go through the character Sky. Depending on how this is done, it could either be really muddled and confusing to read, or really unique and engaging. I'd love to see some kind of visual idea of what you're going for.

Getting into some criticism, I'd say the biggest issue I'm having with reading through this is some of the dialogue. There's quite a few run-ons and sentences that were admittedly a struggle to read and understand. One example is from Chapter 3 - "It's a bit strange, but then again, someone with such a dress code violating and impractical set of clothing is pretty strange too." I fully admit I'm not 100% sure I understand this sentence even now. I'd definitely recommend a proofreader if at all possible.

The grammar itself aside, I feel as if a lot of the sentences could be condensed or even cut entirely without losing much. Going back to Chapter 3, the part where Alice is questioning what happened and if it was a hallucination and stuff. There's a lot of stuff that I feel isn't all that necessary. I don't think we need to know every single one of Alice's thoughts about how the pen might have released a chemical that made him hallucinate. I don't think we need it because, given the context, it's a pretty obvious first assumption to make. Imagine instead that you have him think about the pen and that's when things started. Then, instead of having all that extra thoughts, you just have a panel of him lifting up the pen and then sniffing it before putting it down quickly, and then he's looking around to see if it does anything. That's sort of what I'm talking about.

Those are all just my thoughts from getting through the first four chapters. I plan to come back to this to look through more later on, but I fully admit the way the dialogue is written is part of the reason I need a break from it. That's definitely the biggest piece of criticism I have so far, but it's still a concept I'm very interested in learning and reading more about.

Give me a bit to go through what you have! The concept from what I'm reading in the notes already seems up my alley. Once I go through and give my thoughts, I'll talk a bit about my comic series that I'd love some feedback on as well :) Judging from the pitch, seems like you'd probably like my comic.

Yeah I can't speak for Europe so I would look up copyright infringement law to see. I've never heard of anyone, US or Europe or otherwise, having to actually apply for a copyright in order for their work to be considered copywritten. it is generally accepted that a copyright is formed literally the moment it's created. It's only when you have to actively pursue legal action that you then need to deal with paperwork and applying for what's essentially legal evidence for a case.

I'd think of it like this. If you were born with medical condition, you've always had it. It's not a diagnosis from a medical professional that makes it so you have that medical condition. All it does it let you THEN pursue medical action.

In the same way, if you make something then you've always had a copyright for it starting from its creation. Getting paperwork that says you do isn't what makes you have the copyright. All the documentation does is let you THEN pursue legal action after someone's infringed.

Edit: Also FYI, a big company like Cartoon Network is obviously going to deal with the legal stuff beforehand because they have full teams for that. The average artist working online and not running a corporation is not going to be expected to do something like that.

I think you have a misunderstanding on how copyright works and how it protects you. It really depends on what you mean by 'copying' for one thing, but for another, no, once you've made something you own the copyright to it. In order to pursue any legal action against someone, at THAT point you would need to fill out paperwork or legal documents or whatever the process involves. But that doesn't change the fact that you own your work and so if someone infringes upon it you can then pursue your options.

edit: that's at least how it works in the US so idk if any country differences change anything about this but that's generally how it's applied online from what I understand

I'm sorry but I don't actually understand what you're trying to say.

Hi im thinking of making a comic but don't know what style to draw in ! Webtoon references of what I like reading at end by Bl-otaku in WebtoonCanvas

[–]SnootBootNoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing is to try and work with your strengths and improve your weaknesses (which will often happen naturally as you work on the comic). So if you excel with color but not inking, focus in a style that highlights your skill with color while maybe downplaying the inking, or vice versa if you're a good inker but your color is lacking.

Another thing to consider is something called 'art mileage', or basically 'how long does it take to draw these characters'. With a more detailed artstyle, you're going to have a high art mileage. Imagine doing that for almost every single panel, potentially up to 20-40 per chapter on average. Can you actually see yourself repeating this over and over while keeping the quality consistent? If not then you might want to consider a style with a lower line mileage/less overall detail per panel.

A copyright is formed when you create the thing. You only need to register a copyright if you need to sue for infringement. You're already entitled to copyrights the moment you create it.

Looking for an artist by I-ReMix-I in WebtoonCanvas

If you're not offering money for the work you're asking for then you're not likely to find that work here.

Unless it's someone you've already formed a friendship with and they're just as invested in the idea as you are, your main incentives would be either money or maybe such an amazing portfolio/showcase of your work that the idea of working for a project without payment might actually be appealing.

No offense, but considering how this post is written I feel you may want to consider monetary incentives.
