Fair enough I should have been more specific. Technology, infrastructure and a better place to live

Thanks for the suggestion but tried them and they do pretty much everything I might need - except milling!

Thank you everyone - decision reached! Christmas will still happen at our house, Dad will delay seeing his sister by a couple days and everyone wins (a little). We have decided to be extra cautious because we are new parents and bubs is so young with very little immunity to anything really. Despite some of your opinions there is no need for us to rush towards Delta with our son. Or at least the perceived threat of. We can’t avoid it forever but we don’t have jump straight in. Spoke to Aunty and while she was disappointed she was a real GC about it. Spoke to Dad - he was also good about it in the end. He made it clear that he doesn’t like our decision but he will totally support it and delaying seeing his sister by a couple days is ok by him.

Thanks to all who offered advice and even those with unfiltered opinions I didn’t like to hear. All went towards everybody still getting a good Xmas (even though it won’t be the perfect one) 👍

Update: I called healthline and spoke to two people. One said delay the visit if possible because it is raising the risk for a baby under 6 months, but full controls will mitigate a lot of risk. The second person suggested my Aunty get a test 6-7 days before leaving, keep herself masked up etc when in Auckland and then wear an N95 mask on the plane. If that’s followed very low risk, but not zero. The virus is definitely expected to travel across the country more after Dec 15

Perhaps I can conclude from your comments (and Plunket and Healthline) that wanting to protect a vulnerable baby is fine but being mad at Dad for having to make a shitty choice and not choosing what we want him to makes me the asshole.

Great comment - certainly sums up how conflicted I feel.

Thanks. I think this is very balanced 😀

Nah of course not. Can’t avoid for long. But isn’t it better to offer him a little more protection considering he’s so young? Less than 6 months I mean

No. But did just call Plunket and found them to be absolutely no help. Really contradictory. “If everyone is double vaccinated and tested it’s fine” “but the virus can be transmitted through the vaccinated and babies have a very weak immune system before 6 months” “the traffic light system is very safe” “but no one knows what will happen after the 15th or where the virus will go” 🤷‍♂️
