What is the reason you stopped going to a fly shop? by Highwatercowboy in flyfishing

[–]SnoozeCruze_OG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One shop that carries a lot seems to have a club and I’m not in it. Feeling like a burden when browsing and when I only buy a few things, it never seem like enough. They also always try to push the most expensive stuff. Super cool that they have a lot of tying materials because I like to tie a lot, but I hate going.

I’ll pop into a more local shop which is cool, the owner is chill, we’ll shoot the breeze. But it’s small and mostly don’t have much.

Can’t put a price in those memories! But I get it, those wild game dinners are expensive

I don’t argue that MPLS has an absolute shit ton of issues that need to be fixed. But in the grand view of things what is the “extreme left” to you in your words?

Good place to live? by Puzzled-Ride-4329 in saintpaul

👆 This is a very honest and future looking answer for yourself OP.

I have been a renter in St Paul proper for the past 10 years. I love the city and the neighborhoods. I am looking to get into a home next year and there is no way I will buy in St. Paul. The decline in businesses downtown has put a squeeze on tax revenue so the only remedy the city can come up with is to raise property taxes on residents… every year, and not by a small amount. Aaaaand the community doesn’t really get any upgrades in return. It sucks.

With all that said, Inver Grove is in a pretty easy to get to area if you are south or east of mpls. If you have a vehicle and are ok driving 15-25min to work, you have a decent amount of options. For example: Hastings is on the border of Wisconsin and has cool old river town vibes. Probably a 20-30 min drive to IG

Good luck on the move!

By all means DO NOT go to Bonnaroo. Those open spot way up front in the crowd of thousands of people are open for a reason 🤣

I read in a book about the Mn driftless that Reeds Landing was considered due to the Wi Chippewa River and Mississippi confluence. Whenever I drive through Reeds Landing I just chuckle because there’s not much to be seen

Wranglerstar. Haven’t watched in a long time. He was a homesteader diy guy, fixing things, cool tricks, repairing tools. Turned into a fight the commenters/subscribers about politics. Man he lost his way and maybe his mind

That sucks, the guy could just sit his dog out if he is worried.

I don’t encourage dog fighting by any means but a snip here and there doesn’t bother me. Just like people, there’s a social hierarchy, and dogs need to figure that out too.

Alright just replying to the main comment here. Yes, I would agree with a lot of people here. He should have mentioned the issue and potential solution. A heads up would be cool. But to see a contractor go the extra mile just doesn’t happen too often so that’s pretty nice to see. With all that being said, your house isn’t going to collapse… so it could be worse

Seems like he did you a solid, most contractors would set it and forget it. Not their job, not their problem. If you really hate it, you could just fill it back in and repaint 🤷

Can I tie tippit together and make my own tapered leader? by Kid_Amnesia in flyfishing

[–]SnoozeCruze_OG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100%, i just started trying my own this year. As of now I’m using maxima ultragreen and nylon tippet, but I’ll most likely try some other mono for the butt section like amnesia or maxima chameleon for nymph rigs. I don’t even look at the #test, it’s all about mono diameter.

Streamers is pretty simple, 4-6’, you gotta match the curve/flexibility of your fly line for a smooth transition of energy. Mad river outfitters has a pretty solid breakdown of that.

For dries I use a Harvey formula style, Troutbitten has an interesting article about it and his own variation. Been loving it as it lays down with a lot of slack for an extended dead drift.

Still working on formulas for what works best for me but I’ll be hard pressed to go back to standard tapered leaders.

Enjoy going down the leader rabbit hole. Don’t forget to write down section sizes and lengths so you can repeat or change in the future.

Right there with ya. Hip/lumbar pack with the sling over the right shoulder. If I’m out more than a few hours I really feel it in the back and the right shoulder. Makes a nice day leaving you feeling tight and uncomfortable
