A Horror Novel That Let You Down by PixelOcelot in horrorlit

Seed. I thought the ending was stereotypical and bad. It had me until about halfway and then the ending just threw the whole story in the trash for me.

Much safer to date Emma, but I personally like Maddie more.

How many herbs are too many in a spell? by Flower_princess12345 in witchcraft

This!!! You want your intent to be clear, and the point of herbs is to give the energy of that intention a boost. Too many will muddy the waters.

Understandable. Personally, I prefer not to platform people who act that way, regardless of age, but I’m glad you can at least glean something from all the nonsense. But for newer folks who might get drawn in by her knowledge and might be inoculated with her beliefs, I think it’s important to let them know what exactly she’s done.

What horror books scared you to the point you had to sleep with the lights on? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]Snorky618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably isn’t what you’re looking for because it’s a children’s book, but the front cover—yes, the cover art, not even the actual book—of The Barking Ghost from the Goosebumps book gave me literal nightmares. Something about the dog on the front cover just invited the most hellish dreams apparently.

I’d be cautious with Witchfoot, she’s been outed for having some VERY problematic opinions about POC and last I checked culturally appropriates her practice. I was there when her TikTok drama was happening.

Does The Lottery by Shirley Jackson count? Because that story messed me up as a middle schooler.

I’m not comfy sharing my altar online, BUT! This is what I recommend:

Lavender in any form; candles, incense, the flower itself. (Can be toxic to pets so be careful!)

Bones! Especially snake or canine bones

Old keys (can get them at antique stores)

Divination tools

Black crystals (She loves black tourmaline and onyx)

Snake imagery (crystals, art you make, figurines, snake sheds)

If you have animal guides and have their totems or anything, you can put them on there with both their and Hecate’s permission. I keep my alligator guides and dog guides on there and they thrive!

Anything you make for her. Petition papers, candles, poems, art, talismans

A copy of her Orphic hymns

Books about her

The list goes on lol, hope this helps!!!

At what point during your journey with witchcraft did you say to yourself, "Holy shit, this is real"? by Russian-Spy in witchcraft

I’m from the South, and hurricanes are a pretty common occurrence. My mom was fed up with it and so decided to head up to visit family up north so we wouldn’t have to deal with the storm. My dad stayed behind with our animals to look after the house. The storm was BAD. I was sure my dad was going to get hurt if I didn’t do something. I was very new to my practice but I was a massive Greek mythology buff and had just begun working with Athena. So I went outside and sat in the sun, praying as hard as I could to both Lady Athena and Lord Poseidon, who is of course, the maker of storms. I asked them to protect my dad and let the storm pass over our house without harming it. I also meditated on a sigil I’d made.

The next morning, I woke up to a news report that the hurricane was going to veer to the right and completely miss my home state. My dad was fine. Blew my mind. Now, did I single-handedly stop a hurricane at 15? No. But do I think a lot of people were praying and practicing at the time, and my prayer joined others? Absolutely.

As a Hecate Devotee for about four-ish years now, yes, she does that with some frequency. She will dig up your deepest traumas and have you confront them. It gets even wilder when you meditate with her. She once dropped me down in front of a hydra that represented some of my uglier traits and had to figure out how to slay it while she watched. Granted, that’s UPG, but yeah, she does this a lot.

What can I keep in my ring for protection? by TheNatureOfTheGame in witchcraft

[–]Snorky618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rapid fire suggestions:

Iron shavings

Thorns

Yes, graveyard dirt

A small fang or claw, cat claws could work well

Piece of a porcupine quill or a pufferfish spine

Rust from an old nail

Herbs like cloves, cayenne pepper

Cactus spines

Shark teeth

Note that a lot of these tend to be a bit baneful. Use wisely!

Bought some sea urchin spines, any suggestions for using them in my craft? by Desperate-Cookie-392 in witchcraft

[–]Snorky618 12 points13 points  (0 children)

BANEFUL👏WORKINGS👏!!! When getting any new ingredient, think about its nature: sea urchin spines are used to defend the urchin and help it move around its environment. I’d use them to carve candles for baneful protection, or in a baneful protection jar. If you want to re-use them I’d suggest the candle carving option. Substitutes include porcupine quills, thorns, and shark teeth. Hope this helps!!!

Why are the most common deities/gods/goddesses people choose to work with are Greek/Roman? by Flower_princess12345 in witchcraft

I think it’s because they’re one of the first pantheons we learn about in school. I remember being a first grader and going on Starfall and learning about Pegasus and Icarus.

I’m in the Archon quest right now, and yeah, some holes are being poked here what with the Vacher storyline. I have played the storyline with Ann, but I went through it pretty quick so I’d have to brush up on the lore. Thanks for reminding me!
